Realistic expectations for Spring Break

Asking for a friend.
Friend is going mid/end of March and since my family and I have never been during that time I was hoping to get some insight here.

What can they expect as far as ride wait times, crowds, restaurant waits etc.
This will be their 1st trip to Disney.

Yes.. This is pretty much what I thought but figured thousands of people do it every year so they must know something I don't?

I guess not lol.

Anything they can do to enjoy it??

Curb their expectations about seeing everything. Prioritize. Be prepared for long waits. Make a touring plan and follow it. Choose FPs wisely. Be at the parks before rope drop. Use Extra Magic Hours (if staying on property or at a DS resort or Swan/Dolphin). (CONTROVERSIAL Buy Disney After Hours or Extra Morning Magic tickets if they can afford it.) Have ADRs (already secured). Try out mobile ordering.

This was very last minute for them. They're staying off-site and have no reservations or FPs(that I know of) yet. Touring plans has some days the week of March 18th as only 6s though.

Looks like all 7s and 8s now for that week. Although I know this week TP underestimated crowds, not that it has any bearing on March.

They're already in their FP booking window, even off site, so they should see what's available right away. ADRs too. Some people have had good luck getting ADRs the night before (when people cancel) or day of, but spring break is obviously tougher than most.

(Also I'm having flashbacks to the What Average Guests Think thread.)

If I were you, I'd show your friends the Disney mobile app and point out all the current wait times for rides. They may get some disappointment but also a reality check.

Thank you! I will!
The wait times right now smacked ME in the face.. Woah. That's nuts.

It will be crowded. Wait times for most will be long. (FP+ will be available for more than you think) Get your ADRs looked at now and while you may not get your first choice there will still be plenty of good options out there. Bottom line is prepare for all of it and you'll be fine. Half the battle is knowing its going to be hectic.

We’re going the 17-25 of March. I expect it to be crowded. We went over Easter a few years ago so I know what to expect. I keep changing and adding ADRs for that week and there still seems to be some good availability so maybe have them book dining ASAP

This will be their 1st trip to Disney.

My partner and I went during spring break 2017 and the crowd levels really weren't a problem for us. We did pretty much everything and had only one wait of more than twenty minutes. Keep refreshing the app for day-of FPs--the offerings really do change every few seconds.

Lots of guests have no choice but to go to WDW during spring break and other crowded times, its when they can make it work. Other times of year are unavailable because of jobs, school, travel times, other commitments, so booking a crowded WDW vacation is better than having NO Disney at all.

My party will be there the last week of March, and this is our second trip during Spring Break trip (2017). I mainly agreed to go again to prove a point since my wife and sis-in-law didn't listen when I said it's not a great idea.

Though not ideal, it is doable with a plan and a decent length stay. I'm finishing up my planning tomorrow (we're off site because of the large size of our group), and I'm reasonably happy with what we have done so far. That being said, I can confirm that it will be borderline insane. Not Christmas crazy but any standby line under an hour is a good one. I second the motion to go ahead and get whatever they can fastpass and ADR wise (although the size of the party may limit the number of ADR options available at this point). Also be sure to give them the usual advice to rope drop and try to do any counter service meals at off peak times to avoid wasting much of the day.

On a side note, I've been a lurker on this site for at least 14 years, but I plan on posting a trip report for future Spring Breakers and anyone else who wants to live vicariously through our trip. It should be interesting with a party of 13 with a WIDE variety of ages. (Kids varying from 1-16, cousins, grandparents, etc.)

"Regular" spring break is nothing like Easter. You're going to be pleasantly surprised.

Spring Break is our favorite time to go to WDW. We go every year, we expect the crowds. We stay on property and take advantage of extra magic hours. We eat early (10:00-10:30 for lunch, 4:00-4:30 for dinner) to avoid crowds at quick service locations and use mobile ordering where available. Get a spot for parade and fireworks early if they can - if they aren't interested in seeing the parade or fireworks, hop in line for rides. Tell them to bring a rain jacket, just in case. ADR's for dinner really helps, but if not you can definitely find something. We went last year and didn't make reservations or even do fastpasses for 2 of the days, and we still rode everything we wanted to ride, and ate at the restaurants we wanted to eat at. Hope they have a great time! :)

And to add, weather will be hot and cold, literally. And rain. So tell them to plan accordingly. This past weekend, it was in the mid to upper 80s. And humid, very humid. Yesterday and today, 10 degrees cooler...and it's getting ready to rain.
