I haven’t! I’ll add it to my TBR. My next Kristin Hannah will be “The Four Winds.”

Oh man,
the dog
is what absolutely did me in 😭😭😭
Yes! That one did me in too! I just was a sobbing mess for the last 100 pages of that book.

I've been told The Four Winds is disturbing and really dark. I haven't read that one because my reader friends have told me they don't think I can handle that one. I can't do the really dark and twisted things. I get nightmares.

I got a bunch of books today. I got a Brontë sisters box set that had Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre, Villette, the Professor, Tenant of Wildfell Hall, and Agnes Grey for 25 Euros. I have all but the Professor and Villette, but if I were to buy those two books separately, I'd pay more than 25 euros, and this way, I have extra copies that We can have when she moves out someday. I also got Good Wives by Louisa May Alcott, which I had never heard of and it's a really pretty cover. And I got a copy of Mansfield Park, because the only one I have is in a compilation that is massive. And I got the Winemaker's Wife, which looks like historical fiction set in WWII era. Has anyone read that one?

Hi Everyone!

Still trying to get through my book collection.

The Friday Night Knitting Club was fine. Have you ever had a book inspire you to try or return to a hobby? Sometimes when I read really good fiction that involves cooking I’ll try a recipe if it’s mentioned or just cook more. I was hoping this book would help me return to my many unfinished knitting projects but sadly it didn’t. A book covering a once favorite hobby, knitting, in a favorite location, NYCity, and again, all I can say is it was fine.

The Haunting of Hill House was supposed to be a Halloween read but I got behind and needed an easy read for our Disney trip. The book was actually written in the 1960’s. If I hadn’t seen the movie in the 1990’s, I think, with Liam Neeson, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Luke Wilson I wouldn’t have much background re: the house and the family. The book is very suspenseful with much less action than the movie which is understandable considering the media. We do not get Netflix so I cannot comment on the latest remake. There was one scene in the book that was scary enough for me to make sure my husband and I went to sleep at the same time because I didn’t want to be alone! 😬

I can understand your dismay over the knitting book. I don't knit but I crochet. However, good ole crochet doesn't inspire too many writers, lol  I have gotten so scared upon reading a horror story that I can't finish it. So you arenot alone:)
I am currently reading "older" James Patterson books, without the other writers. I've gone back to his first book and have read about 10 books so far.

I read Pride and Prejudice for about the 20th time for book club, which was fortuitous since my FIL passed a week or so after we started it. Usually I breeze through it, but with my FIL suddenly declining in that week, I didn't have time to read much. Then I moved on to Sense and sensibility and persuasion because I needed comfort reading. This month's book club selection is Pumpkin Spice Cafe, which I have already read and liked, and now I'm re-reading the books. I'm on book two: Cinnamon Bun Bookstore. I didn't like 3: Christmas Tree Farm.... couldn't stand the woman. And I haven't read the others, so now I'm going to skip three when I finish two and go on to the others. I also got a free copy of a specialty one: Apple Pie Ice Cream Parlor because I bought a couple of English language books during English Language book week. I'm excited to get back to this series....I got derailed because I didn't like the Christmas Tree Farm and then I just lost momentum with it. Has anyone read all of them?

I read Pumpkin Spice Cafe and the Christmas Tree Farm. They were okay. They seemed really popular for awhile amongst people but I can't really see why. They were okay and a quick and easy read but nothing I would be eager to read again or recommend.

I'm really obsessed right now with Rachel Reid's books (the Game Changers/Heated Rivalry series). I read Heated Rivalry a few years ago and loved it and now that it is a TV series, I'm embarrassingly obsessed with the whole book series. My friend where I work is also obsessed with it, so much that we almost went to a trivia night about it, but it didn't start until 7pm and we had to work the next day so we were out.

Songbird76, I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for your FIL's passing. I know how hard it is to handle things like that, if we ever can! I love Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility too.

I’ve read all of the books in this series so far. The most recent one, The Gingerbread Bakery, was really sweet. I’m looking forward to reading The Daisy Chain Flower Shop when it comes out in a couple weeks!
I'm on Gingerbread bakery now and really liking it. The Strawberry Patch Pancake house was cute, too. Did you get the Apple Pie Ice Cream Parlor? Apparently it was only released in the Netherlands and Belgium for English book week, so it's not available worldwide. It's a novella, so shorter than the regular books. It's cute, but SUPER cheesy. It was fine, but not one I need to read again. I'm looking forward to the Daisy Chain Flower Shop, too.

Thanks. It's been a rough year with my MIL passing in January and then my FIL not even 3 months later. I've been kind of...not really depressed, just sad and appreciating comfort books and movies and trips to the zoo. I've been going to the zoo a lot. I like to sit in the Mangrove or the Bush restaurant and read.

Is anyone else as excited for the Project Hail Mary movie as I am?

I read the book several years ago, and when I heard they cast Ryan Gosling, I was like "oh, man, this is inspired." I really liked the Martian's film adaptation after reading the book first, and the reviews for Hail Mary are even better.
Loved the book! Loved the movie! A brilliant adaptation! Can't wait for Lord and Miller to tackle Artemis for the big screen.

Yes! LOVED the movie! I was hesitant, but once I heard Ryan Gosling was cast, I was like "okay, that's actually perfect casting" and it was. I did not mind the changes they made at all; they made sense. Probably one of the best book to film adaptations I've ever seen.

One of my favorite sayings is, 'Never judge a book by it's movie'. In this case it does not apply.

“Daisy Chain Flower Shop” by Laurie Gilmore - this is the sixth book in the Dream Harbor series. I’ve read all of the books in this series so far, and while they’re not life-altering, they’re fun, easy reads. Very Hallmark movie-esque, in that the series is set in an idyllic small town where all of the characters are young and hot and have interesting jobs. This particular book is about Daisy, who owns a flower shop. A rumor has spread that her flower shop is cursed, as the last two weddings she booked ended in divorce. To try to combat the rumor, Daisy starts fake-dating a newcomer in town, and we all know where fake-dating leads.

“Reel” by Kennedy Ryan - this is the first book in the Hollywood Renaissance series. This book is about Neevah, a struggling Broadway actress who gets her big break when she’s discovered by Canon, a well-known director who casts her in a huge biopic. Neevah and Canon quickly develop feelings for each other, knowing that the movie could tank if people find out. Amidst all of this, there is a health crisis that forces them to decide what is really important to them.

“Score” by Kennedy Ryan - this is the second book in the Hollywood Renaissance series, and I believe Kennedy Ryan’s best book yet. This one is about Verity, a screenwriter, and Monk, a composer who scores movies. The two met in college, and had a brief, intense relationship that ended suddenly and badly. They reunite over a decade later, when they end up working on a movie together (the same movie as the previous book). Despite their past hurts, they are still drawn to each other like they were so many years ago.

Finally got around to this one. It’s as good as everyone says.
I’m amazed at all these first time novelists the past year or so. The Correspondent now Theo of Golden.
I’ll never think ‘oh sure’ again when someone says they are writing their first ‘great American’ novel - it could be a great one!
