Re-Hire petition

I'm a former cast member that worked at Walt Disney World from 2018 to 2019. I was new to Orlando and got involved with the wrong crowd, long story short, I ended up failing a drug test. I took all the necessary steps in order to come back to work including attending over 30 AA meetings and was able to return to work a few months later. However, I had lost so much money during that time because I was not allowed to work that I ended up leaving Disney for a better paying job. But I didn't properly quit, I just stopped coming to work, which landed me with a no re-hire status. My question for everyone is if it's worth it for me to petition the no re-hire status in hopes of being able to get hired again. It's been almost 6 years since I've worked there and my life has changed immensely. I can provide proof of employment over the past few years and could get a letter of recommendation from a couple current cast members. What are my chances? Does anyone have any experience with petitioning a no re-hire under similar circumstances? Any help is greatly appreciated!

They’re going to want proof of one year of stable employment minimum, and they’re going to want you to basically grovel and show how you have miraculously turned your life around to even be considered.

I‘d say try it, the worst that they’ll tell you is no. And you can attempt later.

One thing a good friend deep inside the company told me is that there’s a little bit of flexibility if you’re applying outside of your original division, and that the longer it has been since your termination, the less likely they are to have specifics. Only a yes, no, or conditional.

In my case, I’ve been historically rejected for rehire status. However earlier this year I had three competing job offers, and Disney was one of them. It was outside of my original division (prev WDW, offer was WDI), so that aligns with what I was told. Or conversely, maybe it’s been so long (21 years), that maybe their system it reset me positive or they don’t really care for some combination of role and candidate.

Or whoever made that offer knew you were technically no-hire, but wanted to give you the offer so much that they somehow got it overridden. Unlikely, but could have been a possibility.

Maybe it also depends on the type of position and how contact began?

I wasn't interviewing for an hourly guest-facing role in the parks: I interviewed for a design leadership role in WDI after being referred by someone who is or would’ve been my peer (gotta keep it vague) and subsequently being contacted by a recruiter on LinkedIn to start the conversation. And the person who originally referred me is a hiring manager with the power to override a historic rehire decision (they're the ones who pushed for me).

Additionally, my original termination was 21 years ago - possibly long enough for some records to have been purged, or for them to realize that the idiot from 2003 is now an award winning design leader with a career across corporate America.

It's not like it matters now. I either work for WDI or I don't, but I still have that offer email and it gives me a smile when I open it (almost as much as when I log into my student loan servicer's website, and it says "paid in full")
