Re-Booking due to medical?

hey,
so we just booked our WDW trip last Tuesday for this February. (35 days to go) however, my dad took a unexpected fall this Friday, and broke two ribs...he wants to go still, however I am worried he could further his injury. I may need to re-schedule for march, however I am not sure if we can do that. What would you suggest? & Will Disney let us move our trip?! whats the cost?? & will our trip be re-funded?

or should he be okay to go within 35 days? just worried about the risk with the fracture.
Info:
All Star Sports Resort- Standard
Play, Dine & Save Package
6 nights, 5 days.
(booked through travel agent, no flights, 19hr drive) **no insurance, as it was never asked for by the travel agent**

Please help!

I assume you do not have trip insurance? Unfortunately, I believe there might be no way to re-book per say, you would have to pay the cancellation fee of $200? and re-book that way. I will look into this and try to find a definite answer, I'm sure someone here might be able to give some more advice also.

If you do not have travel insurance you basically have 2 options.

Option 1: Cancel the trip and pay the $200 cancellation fee.

Option 2: You can reschedule, but any promotion you booked under will most likely not carry forward.

Since you used a TA, they will have to make any changes. A few agencies will charge a re-booking fee so you will need to check into that as well.

Call Disney and tell them. Usually they will drop the cancellation fee but yes you may lose any promotional offers by rescheduling. they won't let you just cancel the trip, they will only let you reschedule. Also if you paid with a travel credit card you may be covered for any fees you incur for missing a trip due to medical injuries. Depends on your card though. I'd call Disney asap. Every day you wait is one more day closer to you losing your deposit.

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
Under 45 days there is a change fee of only $50 bucks or so to change something but if you fully cancel you lose the whole $200. But being it sounds like you will rebook that would only be a change so you would only pay the change fee which is a lot cheaper than losing your whole deposit. I was just on the phone with WDW RESERVATIONS (not DVC member services) the other day adding a cash night stay/package to my DVC stay coming up and they gave me the whole spiel of how many days you have to cancel/change the package etc so it's fresh in my mind. :)

Get a quote from Travelguard for travel insurance. If you buy the insurance within 15 days of your initial vacation trip deposit, you are eligible for "cancel for any reason" coverage, which will cover you regardless of why you can't travel. It's a great way to protect your investment and ensure peace of mind.

Ohhh what bad luck. OUCCCH broken ribs are soooo tender and sore and they take forever to heal. I'd rebook for sure. Just being jostled around on even the easiest rides gonna hurt and if you get bumped into by rude guests youll be in excruciating pain. Your TA should help you readjust the trip and if they are like ours they can arrange it to avoid the fee.

I've only ever had to cxl Disney once in my life which was Jan '14 when I got stuck in Michigan due to a blizzard. They were very understanding and tried to help me move it to a different date so I wouldn't lose my deposit. Eventually no dates would work. The cm I was working with talked to her manager and just ended up refunding my deposit and canceling my reservation and this was the day of arrival.

Disney is not heartless. Call them, explain and see what they can do. I would not reschedule if it were me, 35 days is a long time to heal. Hope you are feeling better soon!

As stated in a previous post, a lot depends on the fracture. If vital organs are not at risk, I think it is fine to go. Broken ribs need activity to heal properly. Sitting around doing nothing is worse for them. There is absolutely nothing that can be done for them other than taking pills to manage pain any way. He will be limited at what he can and cannot do. With the 19hr drive, taking a frequent break will be required to stretch and move. I think the drive will be the most difficult part of all but manageable, especially 5 weeks in from the injury.
