RCI questions

We are going to Hawaii in April 2012 and are thinking about using our membership to stay at a RCI timeshare on Maui. First, has anyone stayed at any of the resorts on Maui and how were they? And second, when you stay at any properties (other than DVC owned properties) is their any pressure or sales presentations that you have to endure? I'm going to Hawaii to relax and enjoy myself and don't want to be subjected to sales pressure.

I don't have any experience with Hawaii trades but will throw out a couple pieces of advice:

1. If you know your travel dates, get the trade request in as soon as possible. RCI trades tend to be the most successful when you start looking more than a year out.

2. Hate to say it but don't be surprised if DVC stops allowing trades into Hawaii resorts via RCI. DVC has control over the trading list and they are pretty consistent about blocking members from accessing areas where they have their own native resort. For instance, there are no RCI destinations available in the Orlando or Hilton Head areas. DVC wants people booking the DVC resorts in those areas.

With Aulani opening in August 2011, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if DVC pulled all of the other Hawaii destinations.

Good luck.

For Maui, I would consider Ka'anapali Beach Club for a trade - it trades through RCi. I've ate breakfast there many times (we usually stay at the Aston Mahana two doors down). It has a nice pool area with a slide.

You don't have to do a tour when you make an RCi exchange, but the resort timeshare people will ask you if you want to do one. We always take our room phone off the hook - anybody that needs to call us will call our cell phones.

Be sure to pick up a "Maui Revealed' guide book. Those are the best guide books I've ever found for the islands. I've got them all - Oahu Revealed, Kauai Revealed, and Big Island of Hawaii and of course, Maui Revealed. Here's a link for their website. If you want to see how close a resort is to the ocean, the site has aerial views:

Have fun planning your trip.
