Rates won't be released until summer, but need to start planning now

I've got an interesting situation here -- I'm planning on participating in the WDW half marathon in January 2012, woohoo! There might be 3 of us in the family running the half and/or full, and if this race fills up as fast as the others have been, we have about a month to commit to it. The dilemma is that it'll we'd like to turn it into a full vacation (and it's been to long since we've been at the world) but we can't do that until the rates are released for 2012. :hammer:

I've contacted various travel agents and they're in the same boat as me -- they can't obtain any sort of quote until the rates are released to them. How can I go about getting a rough price of what this costs (4 adults, 8 day stay in a moderate/value, 6 days tickets, DDP...) so I can give everybody a rough ballpark of the price?

Why can't you book now? We do it all of the time. You can do it 499 days in advance for Disney rooms, 330 days in advance for many airlines, some airlines like Southwest and Airtran are much closer.

Any travel agency with experience should be able to give you "rough" package pricing at this years rates, this gives you a starting point. Then you just need to figure on a slight increase in room and tickets that will occur in August.

What you can do now, today, either yourself or via an agent, is to book a room only reservation to hold your room so you don't get locked out of getting a room. This would involve making a deposit of a single night's room rate with tax included, although that rate could be at one of the higher season rates. Once the real rates are released in August, the package reservation is made with a $200 deposit and the room only reservation deposit is refunded to you.

D'oh! I knew there had to be some sort of way around it but couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. :hammer:

And thank you Master Yoda, I'll PM you now!
