Just got back from seeing the 6:00pm show. Overall out of ten I would give the movie a 8. I thought that it was very funny and cute. The animation was top notch (as always). The animated short "Lifted" was very funny. My favorite short next to "One Man Band". The audience seemed to have enjoyed it and it was mostly little kids with there parents. Lots of laughs going around and everyone clapped at the end.
If I had to rate the Pixar movies it would be:

1.Finding Nemo
2. Monsters Inc
3. Toy Story 2
4. Toy Story
5. Cars
6. Ratatouille
7. A Bug's Life
8. The Incredibles (only because I haven't seen it yet)

I found the movie suprisingly enjoyable. I was expecting not to like it, since all the down-playing of it in the press. I didn't find anything I didn't like about it.

So.. ranking..

1. Nemo
2. Ratatoullie
3. Bugs Life
4. Incredibles
5. Monsters
6. Toy Story
7. Cars
8. Toy Story 2

I enjoyed it, as did both of my boys. It was more sophisticated and nuanced than other recent Pixar films. The characters were more quirky than over-the-top and cartoony. The humor seemed to flow effortlessly along with the story. It wasn't jokey.

And I liked the subject matter -- food, glorious food -- more than race cars or superheroes. I think this may have been the only Pixar film that made me cry when something (and I won't say what) happened to the main villain -- a great character here, btw, and very well played.

There was at least one part that dragged a bit, but I can't recall it. Anyway, I'd say Ratatouille ranks up with the Toy Story movies, Monsters Inc. and Finding Nemo and ahead of all the rest.

I thought the movie was very cute. It has good messages. Don't take credit for other people's work, it will get you in trouble. And always go for your dreams and don't let anyone tell you that you can't be what you wanna be.

Great article, and knowing Brad Bird's views on the entertainment industry today, I wouldn't be surprised if the parallels were intentional. It reminds me of the ending of Brad Bird's The Incredibles when the 2 elderly guys who are clearly animated to be Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas yell something to the effect of "Yeah, that's the way it's done, old school!"

In trying to rank the Pixar pics, I can definitely say The Incredibles and Toy Story 2 are my #1 & 2 respectively, but I find it hard rank the rest because I've loved every one of them and each has moved me in different ways.
