Rapunzel's Hair

Why is it when Eugene cut Rapunzel's hair did it turn brown on her head? I understand the part he cut off would turn brown, but not the part that was still hers. Also, why did Mother Gothel die after the cut... seems from that point forward she would no longer be able to use the hair.

I know... too much time on my hands. :)

I'm guessing he cut off way too much for her magic hair to work and heal, hence the reason it turned brown. The power of Rapunzel's hair was keeping Mother Gothel young. In the film when she kidnaps Rapunzel, she looks to be at least in her seventies. Fast forward eighteen years and she's close to one hundred. That's why she died. She would have been dead already, if it weren't for Rapunzel's hair.

That about sums it up! Remember when the first lock was cut off when she was a baby it turned brown all the way to the root!
