Unusual change though I presume it’s supposed to be funny, two cute animals going on a slow romantic boat ride together completely unaware they are about to end up taking a plunge down a waterfall. That or the other picture is out for refurbishment or something.
Speaking of SotS characters, look who was out at Disneyland Paris this week, despite not having a Splash Mountain..
That's really weird. Do they even know what SotS is in France/Europe? Even here I get the idea most people on the ride just think of them as "the Splash Mountain characters" and don't know what it's from.

I can’t remember where I read it, but the story is the logs were hollowed out by beavers/woodchucks(?) and that’s how you’re able to ride in them. Some Imagineering book or story guide I read, can’t remember

I don’t know about the rest of Europe but here in the UK, the Song of the South VHS was heavily promoted here in the 90s with adverts for it on the inside cover of other Disney VHSs and a trailer would play at the start of most of them too. I still don’t think many people know who they are though.

Not related to the subject of Slash Mountain but WOW! If you squint those VHS cases look nearly identical down to the same rule of thirds and complementary color scheme of orange against blue. I wonder how many other VHS covers follow the same design.

Scrub the attraction and make it as PC friendly as possible with a complete re-write removing the SOTS connection? I sure hope that isn't the case. My tin foil hat is due for repair.

It is not themed to look aged at all like the others and has a different coating. I noticed it on the way on my first ride in eight years and wondered what that was all about. Also, a screw literally fell out of the last row of the log my family was in, not a huge deal, but an interesting moment.

You guys are saying it subtracts from the story but I think it adds to the story. Why are we riding on logs? Well now we know - the Br'er critters carve boats out of them for recreation.
