Rainy Day Plans or Traditions?

In my book, a rainy day at Disney is still better than being anywhere else.

So, if you have unlimited time at the parks or you aren't on a time constraint... What do you like to do on rainy days? Hang out in a resort lobby? Put on a poncho and brave it like a normal day? Have a few drinks in a lounge? Hide out somewhere dry inside a park?

Any fun traditions or rainy day habits to share?

One of my upcoming days in the park looks like it will be a rainy one, so I'd love to have some new ideas for how to spend it. :)

I don't even bother trying to stay dry, since I know for sure I'm going to lose that battle. I throw on flip flops (only time I won't wear sneakers and socks) and hit the parks like I normally would. Ponchos are more uncomfortable to me than they're worth, especially in the heat.

I wear a bunch of quick dry clothes and a rain jacket and soldier on. Unless it's lightning or torrential rain and lightning a little rain usually cools things down temporarily.

Never really had a "rainy day" just a 5 minute torrential down pour in the AM or PM to be honest. But, if it were to happen I would just put on that poncho and go about my day like normal.

I usually stay in the park and hunker down. But we take it really slow. We take the time to notice things we don't normally do while we run through. We pop in every shop, look at every window. Unless its a total soaker...if its a total wash out...we go resort hopping. :)

We've usually just gone to the parks and try not to get drenched. Once we spent the day at Disney Quest and that was great, as it wasn't as crowded as I would have thought for a rainy day.

We grab our ponchos and head out to the Magic Kingdom! While it's been many years since I last saw a good, monsoon-y rainy day at WDW, my sister and I enjoyed a doozy back in the 90's. I remember doing Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain, Peter Pan, Snow White (RIP) and Pirates of the Caribbean multiple times in a row each, all as walk-ons. The rain was coming down in sheets -- I remember it was accumulating so fast that it was ankle-deep in places -- up and over the curbs on Main Street, USA, which had turned into something of a tiny river. The park was near-deserted: it was the closest I'll ever be to having WDW entirely to myself. :)

Our trips are in June and over the years June has gotten rainier and rainier. It doesn't change much for us. We just whip out the Poncho's and keep going. The one time it was a torrential downpour and we were walking through ankle deep water in World Showcase. We grabbed a funnel cake at the cart in America, walked down to Japan and ate it under the canopy...boy were people jealous. It eventually cleared out and we had less people to deal with. Another time in AK it was late afternoon, it poured as we were in line for Nemo. It poured while we were in the show and came out to rain. We soldiered on and when the rain finally stopped, they reopened EE and we just kept getting off and on again since most everyone else left. It was fun.

The parks really do empty out when the rain lasts longer than the brief down pour you get most days. It's a good time to squeeze in a bunch or stuff. I like MK best because the attractions are pretty close together so you can stay relatively dry. At the other parks the attractions are pretty spread out so you can get soaked. If it's just too wet for the parks, take some time to actually enjoy the resort you are paying to stay in!

Most of the time, it won't rain for very long, we take shelter in a restaurant, then go back out when it's over. The last time we went, though, it rained all day at HS. We just had to throw on ponchos and bear it. If it seems like it will be a long rain, you can always go into several shows.

I stay dry in a Disney poncho, they,re made really well (as long as it's not a downpour or super windy). I actually prefer rain in late May, makes crowds more manageable and it's a LOT cooler.

Most rides are indoors anyways.
