Rain?

All Disney All The Time

It's rain not hydrochloric acid. There are inexpensive ponchos that fold up small enough to fit in a pocket, there are small fold-up umbrellas, and I imagine you'll have a hat on anyway. Or you can buy a Disney poncho and/or umbrella when the rain starts if you don't have some minor raingear with you. You can always go whole hog pre-trip and buy some Frogg Toggs, the best lightweight raingear I've ever used.

I have a bad feeling we will get a lot of rain at WDW the week of april 13-20.

What's the best way to deal with a lot of rain? I don't mind an afternoon shower but what do you do when it rains all day long several days in a row?

We are going to WDW the week of April 29th and not worried about the rain. We take a rain poncho but if it is too bad we like to resort hop - to the gift shops, or go to Disney Quest or just tough it out. It is amazing how many people will flee the parks when it starts to rain and then suddenly it stops and lots of rides are just walk-on.

As do we!

For what it's worth, the forecast doesn't look bad at all...

Hmm, yeah that's 4 days in a row where I gotta be ready for rain. Of course, who knows what to really expect- our trip is still five days out.

Yup. No way to know. Weather predictions more than a day or two out are unreliable. Even a day or two out, you can't totally count on them.

The people who get paid to know the weather can't even figure it out. Sometimes it'll even say that it's going to rain, then doesn't. You can never be sure.

Living here in Orlando, a couple weeks ago Weather.com told me there was a 0% chance of rain where I was. Zero. Percent.

It was raining.

Dress in quick dry type clothes. It always rains and I always get caught in it. I never bring a poncho or umbrella. Just breathable and wickable shorts and shirt. Similar to what you would workout in. Trust me if you wear cotton anything, even if you have a poncho/umbrella you will still get somewhat wet and cotton takes way longer to dry. Free yourself from the extras.. Try folding back up a wet poncho. Forget about it!

I was there last year for those dates. We had two mega storms. One started late afternoon and it emptied Epcot. It lasted a good 3-4 hours.

The day I was leaving it started raining with high winds. It started while I was on the tram back lot tour.
Got trapped there for 45 minutes, finally had to make my way up front, wading through water, my luggage already check through to airline. It never did stop pouring and my flight was delayed for hours. Got to Midway and my luggage was soaked, along with other completely through.

The thing I did learn on that trip is FREE luggage checked with SouthWest was not insured and the paper their baggage people gave me for my claim referred me to my own home owners policy.

The rest of the trip the weather was perfect. Warm, sunny. Perfect.

If you're really concerned take and umbrella, rain coat or poncho and even a change of clothes and get a locker. If it doesn't rain you won't need it but if it does that will save you from lugging it around the parks and you can have some dry clothes to change into when the rain stops, and a locker to store your wet clothes in until you leave the park.

Don't be one of the masses that head back to the resort or to DTD...stick it out, the shorter line ups are worth it!

Heck, it's Springtime in central Florida. We should probably be prepared for rain every day! ;)

Of course, who knows what to really expect- our trip is still five days out.

I work in TV news, and I can tell you... Until something is actually falling from the sky, their forecasts are educated guesses, at best.

Last summer it rained all day every day of our anniversary trip. We bought el-cheapo ponchos at Walmart so we could throw them away at the end of the day. Other than that - wear good shoes that dry fast (ie not squishy sneakers) - brave the rain and go do the World. The upside was that there wasn't much of a wait for a lot of stuff. :)

I'll echo what the others have said -- grab a poncho or rain jacket and keep going. We were at Disney World for Monsoon Week in May 2009. We got several inches of rain almost every day we were there -- over a foot of rain that week. It rained for hours and hours every day. Torrential downpours. Puddles that were more than ankle deep. We still had a fabulous time. I don't think we had any lightning during the week so the pools were always open and all the rides kept running. Lines were short and many table service restaurants could accommodate walk-ups with short waits.

The key is to be prepared. I always have the cheap $1 rain ponchos with me because I detest walking around wet...even from the brief afternoon showers. After 1 day of torrential rain on that trip, it was obvious we needed something better than the cheapie ponchos. We bought the Disney ponchos and they were the best investment that week. They're a sturdier plastic so they don't tend to stick to you like the cheap ones do. And if they rip, you can have them replaced for free at any location that sells them. I've seen some people say they had to show a receipt to do that and some people say they were not allowed to get new ones even if they had a receipt. We had no trouble exchanging ours that week. We exchanged 3 or 4 ponchos at 3 different locations -- no questions asked. Also, make sure everyone has at least 2 pair of shoes -- especially if they wear sneakers. It can take nearly 24 hours for soggy shoes to dry out so it's nice to have a dry pair of shoes to put on. Even my son's leather sandals wouldn't dry completely overnight. I would stuff our sneakers with dry towels/washcloths overnight. I'd pull those out in the morning and let the shoes air dry the rest of the way during the day. They'd be ready to go by evening. And bring plenty of socks.

If it's going to rain every day of my vacation, Disney World is a pretty good place for that to happen. I no longer worry about the weather on my Disney trips. I bring the rain ponchos on every trip but rarely have to use them.

Rain = less crowds. Dress for success ie clothes that dry quick, ponchos, extra shoes at your room, etc.. We go in June and regularly get rain both from small little sprinkles to lengthier gushers. It's warm, you aren't going to catch pneumonia. Take advantage of the fact that when it rains, people flee like roaches in the light. You can knock out some serious attractions in a fraction of the time, wait less for QS meals, and actually see parts of the park generally overlooked due to crowding.

THIS! Although some "partially outdoors" attractions shut down when it rains (e.g., Big Thunder Mountain), practically everything else becomes a walk-on as the rain drives crowds from the parks. Throw on a poncho, keep your good humor and take advantage of it!

Since im a guy it's time to throw on a pair swim shorts, quick dry shirt, poncho, and flip flops and enjoy the day. Like we say in Oz the rain wont hurt unless you're a witch. Plus there's nothing better than kicking back under cover in Adventureland with a Dole whip watching the witches melt. "I'm melting, my world, my world!":)

Just FYI - You can buy ponchos in the camping section at Walmart for about 88 cents. They are flimsy, use once and throw away, but for that cheap, who cares...
