Rain in Disney

I have ridden Splash Mountain in a light rain (your gonna get wet regardless) but I am sure they close it for lightning.

Test Track is the only ride i know for sure that closes for any rain.

TT breaks down often enough WITHOUT the threat of rain - as for the other rides, they only stop if there's a threat of thunder (lightning). Include here Fantasmic and the water parks aswell.

It seems that unlike most other theme parks that close at the thought of rain Disney gets very heavy downpours in the summer months and they really dont seem to close anything. Im sure lightning that is close would close some rides. We live near and go to Busch Gardens Williamsburg and here lately they close the rides when it looks like its going to rain. We were there a couple weeks ago, the sun was still out and some dark clouds were coming off in the distance, they closed all the rides, I mean ALL the rides in the entire park for like 30 min. The storm went right around us and it didnt even rain. Someone got struck by lightning in the parking lot a few years ago and since then they have gone way overboard with the storm safety stuff.

Don't forget that it rains every day for 20 minutes at 4:00!

Riding Big Thunder Mountain RR in the rain is AWESOME! The tracks get a little slippery, and you can feel the train losing control slightly. Though, its sort of funny to see rain in the desert.

i was there in the middle of may. It rained almost half the day one day. It poured for a while and then was just drizzling the rest of the time. During the down pour test track was closed but we did in fact ride it in a light rain. DId not even notice the rain while on the outside track but it was deffinetly there.

It's not the rain that shuts rides down, it's the lightning. If there is too much lightning, they will stop running some of the outside things like Splash, Astro Orbiter, or Big Thunder until it passes. I got soaked on the TTA on Saturday because it started raining right as we got on it and the wind blows the rain sideways right onto you!

I've been on rides in the rain and I like it because the lines die down. When I was there they only closed if it was lightning.

Splash Mountain in the utterly pouring rain is fun! No lines! (Amazing that people go on the ride in part to get wet, but won't ride it if it's raining because they don't want to get too wet...) Water cascading on you throughout isn't quite as refreshing as a nice splash after being tossed into a briar patch, but oh well. :)

Favorite Rain-At-WDW story: One of my CP friends was actually informed by a Guest "It looks like it'll rain soon...you might want to get the Bubble out!" (You know...the Bubble they use to cover all of WDW so it doesn't get rained on! :p :lookaroun  )

They close the outdoor rides (Dumbo, Aladin, tinker bell doesn't fly during fireworks, etc.) when lightening is 10 miles from the park. Although few people will be in line to ride an outdoor ride in the rain, with the possible exception of Splash Mountain, since you're going to get wet anyway.

Test Track closes is someone spits on the tracks, never mind a rain drop.

I thought that it only rains when I go to WDW. :lookaroun :hammer:

So, if I wasn't there it was safe for everyone else.

I don't think Test Track actually closes until everybody has gotten off. Once it starts raining is when they close the line for the ride, I believe.

I got on line for Test Track as the park was closing, and I got right on. Once we got outside, it was already pouring, and we got bombarded by huge rain drops that felt like sharp knives. Nevertheless, it was so much fun. Once we got off, there was no line. I'm not sure if it's because they cut the line off or if it was because the park was closing anyway.

I know this is kind of topic but I know that if lightning within so much of a distance they close the pools down quickly. When we were there over Memorial Day weekend we were in the main pool at Coronado Springs and within 2 minutes they had everyone out of the water, I was very impressed. Just as everyone was cleared out of the pool out of nowhere came a Mallard Duck and got right in the pool and just starting swimming around everyone was laughing.

I rode Splash Mountain on Saturday in the pouring rain. I was soaked, much more than I would have been if it wasn't raining. The load CM told us that the rain was tripping the sensors and that was why the ride kept stopping.
