Rain Delays

Ok, I know this isn't a baseball game, but what attractions shut down for rain? All our trips to Disney and we only got hit with one minor rain cloud and we were in Lion King when that happened and didn't even know it until we left.

Most outdoor attraction will close. Splash and Thunder Mountain, all of the Dumbo type rides, TS Island, and the Jungle Cruise. At Epcot Test Track is really the only thing that closes. At Ak only Kali river rapids, and Dino-Rama close. At MGM the back lot tour will close, as will outdoor shows such as Indy. The outdoor shows close in every park. However keep in mind that they will run Wishes! and Illuminations! in the rain.

that's not right. I have been on most of those rides in the rain. It is thunderstorms that close rides--almost nothing closes just for rain (Test Track is the only ride I can think of). Any outdoor rides with exposed metal close for thunderstorms, though, for obvious reasons. Parades, as well. They will run the fireworks in the rain, though they may have to turn some pyro off. I have seen Indy in the rain, they just use an alternate show.

I have seen fantasmic in the rain they just do a rain show atleast that is what the CM at the entrance told me. I have been able to ride most all of the attractions in the rain it is kinda fun if you have a poncho

Exactly. Its usually the best time to get on some of e-tickets because everybody huddles up in the stores to get out of the rain.

WDW`s Weather center will track storm systems and local conditions - issuing alerts, standbys and closure warnings if need be(I hope a CM can get a bit more technical)

Test Track will close for lightning. Rain isn`t too bad a problem since the cars run on a track anyhow. Splash and Thunder have been known to close, as has the TTA and Astro Orbitor, depending on the storms severity.

Indy can run during bad weather, but the airfield finale scene is usually cancelled (and some of the market scene) if its too wet. The stage show (Cinderellabration now) is hit and miss depending on the stage condition; they did go through a no show stage of Disneymania if it was wet - too slippy.

RoE will run during a thunderstorm, but with no perimeter shells. Thats fun watching 30-40,000 people looking skyward at the lightning as thousands of dollars worth of pyro goes off at ground level!

Fantasmic! will be cancelled if there is local lightning, they run the rain show - basically a preprogrammed 5 minute or so performance of the fountains, then all the pyro is released to the Fantasmic! theme - no performers involved.

I have been rained out of Fantasmic two different years. They were torrential rains with lots of lightening. Both times I was told they "never" shut down Fantasmic for rain. Still I found myself soaking wet, huddled under a bus stop awning. :p Oh, well, since it's rare, it can't happen to me again this year, right?

Copied from my old Stuck In Park thread:

Several years ago my family and I were waiting for Fantasmic to start. We had our seats already, dead center of the stage. All of a sudden a huge thunderstorm developed. It wasn’t supposed to rain at all that day. As the storm got closer nobody left their seats. I believe it was the first year Fantasmic ran and everybody wanted to see it.

A cast member made an announcement that the park is being closed due to the storm and everyone should find a safe place as the storm is just minutes from hitting the park and it is building strength. Everyone practically ran out of the theater as the rain began to pour down. We made it to the center of the park when things started getting really bad. Huge hail began falling and we ran over to the Primetime Café because it was the only building that wasn’t full of people. We somehow were able to find seats at the bar and the bartender started pouring free drinks.

Hail blew under the door making it comical watching people try to walk on the ice. Eventually they stuffed a towel under the door to stop the ice and water from coming in. About 1 ½ to 2 hours later the storm let up. Leaving the restaurant we looked around. The entire park was flooded. Water was actually over the curbs. People left the park with their shoes off. All the strollers that were around the restaurant were now flipped upside down over in the Indy queue line. Others were in the lake. The parking lot was littered with trashcans and other debris. The whole park was a mess.

The best ride we ever had at WDW was the time we rode BTMRR in a downpour. They closed the ride right after our run. Just before "take off", a CM announced, "Ladies and Gentlemen, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has just become.... A WATER RIDE." It was thrilling and scary and wetter than wet!
