Rain Arrives: Knott's & Six Flags Closed, Disneyland & DCA Open

It's raining today. As per the usual, Knott's Berry Farm and Six Flags Magic Mountain didn't open today and remain closed. They may or may not open tomorrow with more rain expected.

Universal Studios, Disneyland and DCA are all open today. Disneyland is open until Midnight and DCA is open until 11pm, although parades and Fantasmic! have been cancelled. World of Color will still perform, and the fireworks will perform unless the wind is too strong.

The local TV stations are also making sure that this is happening today...

That's too bad about Fantasmic! So close to its closure. How hard is it raining?

It's stopped now in OC, and the sun is out and setting through golden and fiery red clouds. We got just under one inch of rain today here in Villa Park, about 8 miles east of Disneyland.

But Fantasmic! is generally cancelled after that much rain because the island gets too muddy for the performers. There's also a chance of showers tonight, and then another big batch of rain tomorrow afternoon.

I'm not surprised that some of the theme parks down there are closed today given the hysteria that occurs whenever Southern Californians see drops of water fall from the sky. I happened to be in the area Sunday and Monday and got a good chuckle out of the ominous "storm" predictions on the local news. They showed people packing sandbags, local authorities fretting about landslides, and worried parents wondering how their children would get to and from school when the rain hit. The icing on the cake was when a dramatic weatherman presented a map displaying the expected rainfall totals from the incoming front and it showed that most cities in the region were only going to get less than an inch of rainfall.

It makes sense Knott's and Magic Mountain is closed, due to the amount of outdoor attractions both have.

Still planning to go to the DLR this Saturday, rain or shine. I'd like to visit the Big Thunder Ranch letting zoo before that's gone forever and experience the Railroad and the River before Disney begins construction on its ruin.

Well, landslides are a legitimate worry in some parts. But yes, "storm watch" is a total joke.

Disneyland just ended the normal 9:30pm fireworks show. The sky is clear and it looked fantastic. More rain on the way for tomorrow though!

I've never seen rain hysteria but they act like they are all going to freeze to death if the temperature drops into the 50s.

The same local TV news coverage takes place for temperatures below 55 degrees.

I stopped watching the local TV news programs sometime around 1995 because it was becoming so stupid, as if it is aimed at someone with a 5th grade education and limited life experiences. Jimmy Kimmel's hilarious clips of the LA local TV news proves it has only gotten worse since then.

Was at Disneyland for paint the night and fireworks tonight, cleared up quite nicely from how it was this morning.

I will be there tomorrow through Sunday for my birthday. As long as I get two clear nights to see the fireworks and Fantasmic, and at least one chance to ride the Mark Twain, I'll be happy...

Why you cannot even compare rain at Disneyland and Disney World.

Los Angeles rain is COLD. No one should be walking around wet clothes when its in the 50s outside. NO thanks to Disneyland in the rain.
You need to bundle up and a thin poncho won't keep your winter clothes dry. It never gets above 55 when it rains in California.

Florida rain is warm and usually hard but very short and then the sun comes back out. There is also lots of shelter to take during those downpours and you can put on a lightweight poncho over summer attire and take it off once the sun comes out. Even if it rains for hours, it's in the 80s so warm enough to be still comfortable when wet.

It's not that Angelenos are wimps its that no one likes to be cold and wet at the same time.
