Maria Sharapova, U.S. Open champion:

"I believe, at the end of the day, personally, my life is not about a banana.''

Who here hasn't felt the same way?

There was one minute this morning that was all about a banana.

Freaky how Maria Sharapova and I have such similar lives!

"As the light changed from red to green to yellow and back to red again, I sat there thinking about life. Was it nothing more than a bunch of honking and yelling? Sometimes it seemed that way."-Jack Handy

Garth Algar: Uhm, Wayne? What do you do if every time you see this one incredible woman, you think you're gonna hurl?
Wayne Campbell: I say hurl. If you blow chunks and she comes back, she's yours. But if you spew and she bolts, then it was never meant to be.

"To me, clowns aren't funny. In fact, they're kind of scary. I've wondered where this started and I think it goes back to the time I went to the circus, and a clown killed my dad."-Jack Handy

To me, it's a good idea to always carry two sacks of something when you walk around. That way, if anybody says, 'Hey, can you give me a hand?' you can say, 'Sorry, got these sacks.' Jack Handey

Sorry it's not very cheerful, but this quote means a lot to me. It is on my desk at work every day:

'The mood and temper of the public in regard to the treatment of crime and criminals, is one of the most unfailing tests of the civilisation of any country. A calm and dispassionate recognition of the rights of the accused against the State and even of convicted criminals against the State, a constant heart-searching by all charged with the duty of punishment, a desire and eagerness to rehabilitate in the world of industry all those who have paid their dues in the hard coinage of punishment, tireless efforts towards the discovery of curative and regenerating processes, and an unfaltering faith that there is a treasure, if you can only find it, in the heart of every man - these are the symbols which, in the treatment of crime and criminals, mark and measure the stored-up strength of a nation, and are sign and proof of the living virtue in it.'
Winston Churchill 1910

Heading for the great escape.
Shame that in todays Britain, it is only the rights of the accused/criminal that are respected.

Hang em and flogg em I say!

I agree completely. It can seem sometimes that the offender's rights override that of the victim and the public. That is a sentiment that means a lot to me and I spend a significant proportion of my working life trying to address that problem.

I have great frustrations about the limitations of our criminal justice system, but realised that I wasn't going to change anything by sitting and moaning about it. I decided the only way I could influence it for the better was to get involved, and then do the best job I can do every day, with every case I have. I hope that sometimes I get that right.

Anyway - quote for the day:

"Is man one of God's blunders or is God one of man's blunders?" - Nietzsche

"Yes, I have walked along the path of evil many times. It's a twisting, turning path that actually leads to a charming block garden -- but beyond that EVIL!" ~Sir Simon Milligan, Kids in the Hall
