Hi Cherrynegra
I couldn't help but notice your avator is from the musical Wicked. I just finished the book and loved it!! I'm flying up to New Jersey in December and my friend bought us tickets to see Wicked on the 7th. I was just wondering if you've seen it, what you thought of it and if it followed the book?
Thanks for reading my post,
BellaBlue :)

I'm not cherry, but I'm gonna answer this one too.

Wicked is a gigantic spectacle. Like, gigantic. The reviews it got were pretty mixed, but audiences didn't seem to care and has now become the hardest ticket to get. It's a good show. In my opinion the score is a little lax, along with a few other individual pieces of the creative process, but when they come together, the show is greater than the sum of its parts, and is quite impressive.

And no, it doesn't follow the book at all. Winnie Holzman, the woman who wrore the book of the musical, is a genius and was able to take only the important parts of a book, and work them into an incredible story (the story is the best part of the show, in my opinion). And the ending got completely changed. COMPLETELY. So no, it's nothing at all like that book.

Enjoy the show!

PBS is currently running a special series on Broadway. Last night they showcased Wicked and how it was produced. Massive undertaking that actually had its out of town previews in San Francisco. It cost 40 Million and they estimate that if they sell out every seat for every performance, it will pay for itself in a year and a half. While I haven't seen it myself, I have to say that based on what I saw last night it looks VERY interresting! :D

Just an aside...they also showcased Disney's forray into theatre in last nights episode, interviewing Eisner about the New Amsterdam Theatre and the Times Square clean up, as well as showing Lion King and what it took to bring it to the stage. I need to get the dvd's of this series, because I have enjoyed it very much :)

Wicked doesn't even have to sell out to recoup. The show mentioned it needing to sell 1300ish seats per show in order to do it. And the theatre actually holds over 1900. And they most certainly WILL sell out for the first year and a half...and beyond. It's virtually sold out into early spring already. Just handfuls of tickets left until then.
