does a + a = 2a or does a+a = a²

i think it equals a². thanks very much!!!!!!

Maths was never a strong point but if you substitute "a" for a number you will get your answer.

If "a" = 2 then in your equation a+a=2a (2+2=4). However in this example "a" could also be "a" squared (2 squared=4).

If "a" is any number (other than 2) then a+a = 2a

Interestingly enough, 2 is the only number that would work both ways. Not even 1 would work.

I guess that gives 2 magical math properties.:lol:

and if a is a constant, the lim a as a---> infinity is a!
and the integral of...sorry...I'm done.

In what case does a+a=3a? (there is an answer...easy one!)
