Im planning a family trip to disney world for the month of october or november for 7 days. Ill be taking my 6 year old daughter out of school and want to pick the least crowded times with cool temperatures. What 7 days out of october or november would be the best? Is the animal kingdom open all year round? When does the christmas decorations go up?

Hi Samsakara, and welcome,

We went to the World this past October (4th-11th) and it was HOT. So hot that it truely took away from the fun. When we walked out of our room in the morning my glasses steamed up right away. Never again. Also, because there is so much going on in October it was crowded.
This year we're going the monday after Thanksgiving. Should be cooler and less crowded, plus the Christmas decorations will be up. We've seen them before and it really makes it more magical.

What ever you and your family decide, you will enjoy the whole experience. BTW, Animal Kingdom is open all year and be sure to take your daughter to see The Lion King, not to be missed. You'll enjoy it too.

Mid-to-late November might be best for you

A key question is whether you want to be able to attend the Food & Wine festival that is held in EPCOT (mostly World Showcase) for the entire month of October and the 1st & 2nd weeks of November - it's an excellent event and I strongly reccomend it, but that's because I'm a real food & wine lover w/o kids - if that's not your thing, right after the festival would be best. I've also been in October when it's been very hot, while its almost always been comfortable by mid-November.

You might take a look at this link regarding your questions about crowd levels:

You should catch some of the holiday decorations if you go in November, particularly later in the month. This past November we saw a lot of stuff already up by the end of the 1st week.

We always go the last 2 weeks of October. I can tell you in the 10 or so years we've been going, it never rained more than a brief shower once in all that time. :)
The temperatures are usually in the low to mid eighties in the afternoon with cooler mornings and evenings. :)
The only time the weather differentiated from this pattern was this past October. The first week of our trip was hot! Near 90 all week. Then we had a hurricane! After that, the temperatures were low. 70ish for the high, if we were lucky.
I guess I can only say, that normally October weather is perfect. But, due to the increased hurricane occurences lately, you just can't be sure. :(

October and November weather is unpredictable to say the least. Late October is awesome if you want to hit the Food & Wine Fest and the Eat to the Beat concert series as well as the Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. The F &W will be most of those two months, The Halloween thing will most likely be only select nights in October. This October there was a good choice of dates to select from throughout the whole month practically.
Animal Kingdom is open all year round. Hours can vary based on attendance projections though but at minimum it is usually 9am-5 pm on any given day.
Christmas Decorations start going up in the beginning of October, but the Christmas special events start the day after Thanksgiving. If you have never been there between Thanksgiving and Christmas ( Meaning December 25th) I cant stress to you how magical it is. Some of the bigger special events are the Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party ( a personal favorite), The Osbourne Lights in MGM Studios, The Candlelight Processional in EPCOT. I go every year around that time frame specifically for these events. It is traditionally cooler then, althoguh I have hit one or two years where it was in the 90s even in December!!! Usually it is in the 70's to low 80's though!!! If you need any help booking your trip, please dont hesitate to E mail me at the below address!!! Belle

If I were you I would go the second week of November. It's usually cooler by then with temps hitting the 70's and sometimes the 80's. Remember, the weather is weird here. It's getting down to 32 tonight, two days ago it was almost 80!

Whenever you go, I hope you have a great time!

You also might want to check the school calendar to make sure she won't be missing something important. It also might be possible to coordinate your vacation with some of her days off.

Our district takes the last day of the quarter off so teachers can do report cards, there are fall parent-teacher conferences, teacher in-service days, etc. My kids have about 6 days off in October every year--a day or two at a time, unfortunately.

Again, your district may be different, but ours will finalize the 2006-2007 calendar by the end of January. Your principal will know, even if it isn't published yet.

try to coordinate with days your daughter gets off. I know she is only 6 but when I was a nanny we had to be sure of the days we pulled the boys from school for trips so they wouldn't be held back for missing too many school days. That was a factor for me too in my senior year.

I have been in FL in mid November and it was good weather. Sept and October are HOT to the point of disgust.
