Questions Regarding Disneyland, CA

Traffic is not horrendous, and is quite mild in Orange County compared to other major cities. The surface street traffic from the Embassy Suites to the Disneyland parking structure won't be anything to worry about. And compared to I-Drive in Orlando, the Anaheim Resort District is like a sleepy little town with one stoplight.

Are you thinking you want to drive a rental car each morning to the Disneyland Parking Structure or Toy Story Parking Lot? Or are you just going to ride the hotel ART shuttle bus to and from the Embassy Suites. The hotel shuttle drop you off about 75 yards from the theme park entry gates, and that can be much easier than dealing with the parking structure and parking trams and paying for parking each day. An ART bus pass is 2 dollars per day, unless the Embassy Suites has it's own private shuttle bus. http://www.rideart.org/

And you are sure you don't want to try one of the closer hotels on Harbor where you could just walk a the two or three blocks to the parks?
We are definitely renting a car, but if Embassy Suites has a free shuttle service, we'll definitely take advantage of that! I also chose Embassy Suites because I think we have a few HHonors points saved up.

The Embassy Suites in Anaheim on Frontera, just off the 91 Riverside Freeway? If so, that's quite a ways from Disneyland, like 10 miles.

Or the Embassy Suites on Harbor Blvd., that is actually in Garden Grove? That one is much closer to Disneyland. Much closer!

Yes the Garden Grove.

I know this is a Walt Disney World forum, hence WDWMagic, but I have a few questions to ask about the Disneyland Resort. I am thinking about going to Disneyland in late July or early August. I haven't been to Disneyland in years, since I was thirteen or so. How are the crowd levels compared to the Magic Kingdom? Is it worth traveling from Florida? What are some ways I can avoid the crowds? What is the best place to stay on the property? And finally what are some attractions I can't miss or that are exclusive the the Disneyland resort? Thanks for the help.

If you haven't been to DLR in a long while, you will find it has changed so much! The addition of California Adventure wiped out all the run-down motels that had surrounded DL to the south. They've also beautified the local area a lot in the process. They've also added a parking garage.

There are several threads on here which discuss the issue of on-property vs off-property. I'm one that recently opened up one of such discussions. My husband and I have stayed off-property every time....a long time ago in one of those motels that is now history. Most recently we stayed at the Best Western Stovall's, but decided not to stay there on our upcoming trip for several reasons. Some properties do have their own shuttles to/from DL (BW Stovall's does not).

Attractions you can't miss or are exclusive to DLR: Matterhorn for sure, it's exclusive. (No, Expedition Everest does not compare well.) Much of California Adventure has not been duplicated in any of the WDW parks.

We took our first trip to WDW last summer. We decided that we would try to do those things that did not have a counterpart in DLR/DCA, first, and then the things that both coasts have. There are differences between Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion, and Pirates of the Caribbean. At times you will feel like you are in a parallel universe.

As for whether you should make the trip, only you can decide that. If I could visit all of the world's Disney parks, I would. So far, though, we've only been to the ones in the USA.

I stayed at Ayres Hotel in September. It was very affordable but still a very fancy hotel. Full course breakfast every morning, 3 miles literally down the road from Disneyland and directly across the street from the Honda Center (where the Anaheim Ducks play) and down the street from Angel Stadium. Quick access to the freeways as well. The room was lovely, really big too. I got a nice deal because it was a "Summer on fire" deal or something like that. Anyway, look into it.

Disneyland is definitely worth traveling to compared to Magic Kingdom, both are amazing but several things at Disneyland are farther superior to WDW.

Must Sees-
Fantasyland- Everything in DL's Fantasyland is superior to WDW's version. It has Snow White, Wild Ride, Daring Journey, Alice in Wonderland, which are all thing that WDW lacks.
Indy Jones Adventure- WDW does not have one of these
POTC- POTC at DL is drastically different than WDW's Version.
Haunted Mansion- Superior to WDW
Cars Land- WDW doesn't have one and is amazing!

There are lots more differences, but these are major ride differences!

I am so confused, have you or have you not been to Disneyland?
