Questions about Disney at Christmas

HI! We are planning a trip at Christmas. This will not be our first Disney trip, but will be our first at Christmas time. I am looking for ideas of cool things to see Holiday related while we are there. We are not interested in spending extra money, so MVMCP is out of the question. Any ideas such as special parades, the Osborne Family lights at HS or the Gingerbread House at GF is what I am looking for. Thanks in advance!

Resort hop to view the resort decorations...extra cost, zero.

I'm not trying to spoil your anticipation here, but rather manage your expectations somewhat. The parks can be very, very, very busy at Christmas time, especially on and around Christmas day. It's great fun there, don't get me wrong and the fact it's Christmas multiplies the 'magic'. Just be prepared in your plans to queue a lot and the park to be very crowded! Plan your FP+'s accordingly and be prepared to queue for rides that wouldn't normally expect such waits. When you've accepted this, you can then look forward to a great time and be prepared for a busy but enjoyable day.

The MVMCP parade becomes the daily parade after the last Christmas party, which is on December 18 this year.
Make sure to check out the Gingerbread Carousel at Beach Club, and the Model Train display at Yacht Club.
Fort Wilderness is a must, many of the campers out-do Disney on decorations. Also they decorate their golf carts, and there is a golf cart parade most Saturday nights, and frequently impromptu ones on other nights.
Children can meet Santa in Downtown Disney.
The tree at Wilderness Lodge is not to be missed.

Make sure to check out all the gingerbread displays. There is one at every deluxe resort. Last year at Port Orleans French Quarter each department made a small gingerbread house (house keeping, front desk, etc) and they had a vote to see who's was the best. There is also a display in the land pavilion by the Garden Grill.

We've been several times during the holidays. Here are my faves...

-Osborne Lights is a must for me...more times the better. I like going at least once right when the lights are turned on since it's cool to see and be in the big crowd for the ooohs and ahhhas. I like going another time towards the end of the night when it's quiet, as there's sort of a peace to it at that time. I like having hot cocoa during it since it kind of sets the mood. Oh...and make sure to try and find the purple cat.

-Resort decor is a must. Everyone has their faves, but the trees at the GF, AKL and WL are worth seeing. The gingerbread at the GF, Contemporary, BC, and BW are also a must. And if you like trains, YC usually has a nice display.

-The storytellers in Epcot are entertaining. So, if you already like going country to country, make sure you check the times in each country.

-Even if you're not doing MVMCP, you can still experience Holiday Wishes. In fact. you get a great view of the perimeter effects if you're outside the park. The Poly is the best place IMO, but the deck at the Contemporary and the dock at the GF are also great spots and all pipe in the music. Of course, if you're going literally right at Christmas, this will be your standard fireworks display. You didn't specify your dates, but since you mentioned MVMCP, I thought you might be going before the peak of the holidays since the party stops before the main Christmas rush.

-Illuminations has a holiday tag at the end, so make sure you see that.

-I love all of the park decor and trees, so make sure you cash in on those photo ops.

-Dreamlights- end of story :)

-You'll find there are some seasonal treats and drinks...so try those as well.

-If you have time, head to Ft. Wilderness to see all of the decked out campgrounds and maybe do a sleigh ride.

-Santa...I think he's in DTD. DTD also has nice decorations and last time we were in DTD during the holidays, they had musicians out playing classical Christmas music.

OK- that's all I can remember right now. :D

We are actually checking in on the 17th and out on the 21st. MVMCP is going on our first night. I knew about the music being piped in and being able to see wishes from Ohana's because we have experienced that before, so our plan is to visit MK until they kick us out and request a late dinner with a window table at Ohana's so that we can see the fireworks.
Love all your other ideas as well.
Have you ever stayed at CBR? I know you have been to WDW a lot.

OH YEAH! I had heard about JC before, but had forgotten! Thanks for the reminder!!!! :)
Resort Hoping is one of my favorites, all of the deluxe resorts look so nice and are so well decorated. The window displays at MK/DSH get overlayed for christmas. I think they decorate a little inside, and of course Christmas merchandise!

It's actually not that bad with a little planning. Admittedly, I've not done Magic Kingdom on Christmas Day, but rather Epcot, but still with a little patience and flexibility (and taking advantage of Extra Magic Hours as much as possible), the crowds shouldn't have too much of an impact on you.
