Question regarding points-Help!

My wife and I are thinking about DVC. My questions are, we have
enough money to purchase about 150 points, and will probably have
enough to purchase an additional 150 points early 2009. We want the
same home resort. Would you advise that we purchase 150 points now, and
then the remaining next year, or wait to purchase all 300 at same time? We
are looking at resale, not new purchase. Any thoughts/ideas?

I would ask, why wait? If the price is good now, buy now and add later. You can start enjoying the benefits of DVC membership now.

Have you looked into buying from DVC directly? They recently were giving developer incentive points when puchasing. We bought in at 160 points and received an additonal 160 developer incentive points that needed to be used the first year. Just a thought.

Either way, don't wait...Our only regret is we didn't buy in earlier.

Since you're buying resale, I'm guessing you're looking into an older resort, like BCV or WLV?

If you opted to finance the second batch of 150 points, do you foresee anything that would preclude you from paying it off in early 2009, when you expect to have the money anyway? And if your situation were to change, how much would having to pay off your extra points hurt you?

Only you know your financial situation, if it wouldn't hurt you to finance the points, and if it's really what you want, then go for it. Me, I'd wait. After all, when you use your first batch of 150 points, you can borrow next year's points and still have a 300 point vacation. Next year, when you buy the other 150 points, you can do the same thing, and keep balancing things off that way.

Thanks for the feedback- yes we really love VWL, so we would be going resale. With my job, I get quarterly bonuses, and financially we are able to
let those bonuses build up, so my thought was I would have enough for
150 points or so around fall of this year, and another 100 or so in early 2009.
I guess what I was really looking at is it better to wait and then just purchase the whole amount in early 2009 or purchase what I can in 2008, and then add to it in 2009? Does this make any sense? :veryconfu

If you can afford to purchase the extra points now do it. Remember that points prices will go up. Why not start enjoying your points now! If you are financing the purchase you can always take the money you were planning to use to purchase the addtional points in 2009 and just apply that to your loan.

The only problem I foresee is this:

Buying resale if you buy some now and add on later-it will not be connected from what I understand. Probably on 2 different membership numbers. You will end up with possibly 2 different use years also. If you can keep up with that then no problem.

With DVC they connect your points and can get you the same use year. We bought SSR last year 200 points and got a use year of December. When we purchased a 110 point add on at AKLV we were able to get the same use year of December. I hope this makes sense.
