Question for First Timers

This is a question for folks out there who spent a lot of time on WDWMAGIC or similar websites BEFORE your first visit...

Did all of our enthusiasm make your trip seem like a little bit of a letdown?

Sometimes when I hear everyone rave about a movie and then I finally get to see it, I think, "Well, it wasn't THAT good." And I wonder if it works the same with Disney. Do we take some of the magic away with all of our focus on the tiniest details?

I hope not, because we won't be able to curb our enthusiasm anyway !

I was wondering the same thing. I haven't been to Disney since I've found wdwmagic or any other sites so I don't know if coming here 24/7 will effect my vacation or not. It has gotten me really excited about going though. :)

Edit: Just noticed this is my 300th post. :)

no way! this site just makes me so excited and want to go back. all the little details can help first timers anyway e.g where to eat

This site is only the tip of the iceberg - when you get there the feelings and the excitement you just can't put into words, I'm afraid you just can't help being a kid again (even if you do have some of your own!!).

Cool question!! Seeing as this site was not available before my first time, I'm not sure my response is even valid. In any event, things I've heard about on these boards in which I have not seen or experienced yet in person, have never really been a let down. An example would be Mission:Space. I read a lot on here about it before actually going on but I don't think it had any impact on my ride experience. I guess to each his/her own though. I read these boards as mostly opinions and not the gospel so maybe this is why the hype I read has little impact on my actual experience... :D

I only discovered this site before my 3rd visit. I found it listed in the Unofficial Guide to WDW and it really helped me to plan my visit and we got more out of our Disney Trip because of it

That's kind of why I try to avoid reading topics about new rides that I haven't seen yet. For example, with Soarin, there is the video floating around here that Ryland posted for us about the ride and I did not watch it just so there will be the element of suprise. And while I did read about Stitch's Great Escape, I still don't exactly know what is going on in the ride. I guess we'll have to see though. My next trip is in just a few days, so don't know if it will make much of an impact or not.

I discovered WDWMagic long after I first visited WDW; however I found it very useful in discovering things that I had never noticed at the four parks, "the key is under tha mat" for example. My girlfriend has never been and I have been unsuccessful in getting her to visit the site on a regular basis. Every now and then she will check out something that I want her to see, but she won't visit on her own, she thinks it will somehow ruin her experience instead of inhancing it. Huh...women.

I've been to WDW too many times so I don't qualify to answer your question directly, but like a previous poster, I haven't been back to WDW since I discovered this site. I think this site just gets me more excited to go back, though, and I've learned quite a bit about Disney!

I find I usually don't watch ride videos, etc, because I like to keep it special for my visits to WDW. That way every time I go, it's like seeing it all for the first time all over again (or at least, I wind up forgetting things about attractions, and am pleasantly surprised when I visit and see them anew!).

And I definitely steer clear of video/audio of attractions that I haven't seen yet (like Mission: Space, Soarin', Philharmagic, Stitch...).

But that's just me. Everyone has their own unique way of doing things!

Never, ever been let down at Disney.

All the enthusiasm from others about the trip cannot match what it's like to walk down Main Street for the first time. It will forever be etched in my heart.

I discovered this site about 2 years ago and had already been to Disney several times. I love coming here but only if I'm going. It gets me worked up so I have to avoid this site if I'm not going so that I won't have the "little boy gazing out the window at the other kids playing because I can't go outside" syndrome.
