Question: Florida Resident Passes

Hi there!

So I live with my parents (saving money) and while we live in New England, they recently purchased a second home down in Florida. This gives them the ability to purchase Park Tickets at a discounted rate since they own property down there.

It might be a stretch, but do you all think this would apply to me? I have a regular annual pass up for renewal and it would be great to save some decent money on it.

Thoughts?

From the FAQ...
Florida Resident Tickets:
Proof of a Florida residential address is required. For each ticket purchased for an adult, you may provide any of the following:

  • Valid Florida Drivers License (must have a Florida address)
  • Valid Florida State-issued ID Card (must have a Florida address)
  • Valid Florida-based military ID
If you do not have one of the IDs indicated above, then you must provide one of the following, dated within the past two (2) months evidencing a Florida residential address together with a corresponding picture ID (passport, driver's license, state identification card):

Proof of Current Mortgage
Monthly mortgage statement not older than two (2) months old
Deeds, Mortgage Contracts, Mortgage Payment Booklets and leases are not accepted.

Bills, Policies or Registration
Current homeowner's insurance policy or bill
Current automobile registration, insurance policy or bill
Current Utility bill (Power / Phone / Cable / Water)
Bills can be no more than two (2) months old (PO Boxes are not accepted as proof of residency).

Mail
Mail from financial institutions; including checking, savings or investment account statements
Mail from Federal, State, County or City government agencies
Mail can be no more than two (2) months old (PO Boxes are not accepted as proof of residency)

One form of Florida residency validation as listed above is required. Additional members of the same household must only provide proof of same residential address.

Current statements and bills printed from electronic versions are accepted, along with electronic bills provided via smart phones and tablet devices

The above two posts are totally correct on the rules, but that does not mean that it's totally accurate. Before we changed our ID's to FL we were able to get FL resident pricing without ever providing proof. It's just a matter of getting the right person to sell you the pass. I'd suggest going with mom and/or dad and seeing if you could just piggy back on their ID. If you're all together, you might be able to swing it. Say you live with them and are keeping your yankee ID just to get in state tuition or something. The worst that could happen is they say, "no," and you're back where you are now with pricing.

Normally I'm all for being honest and transparent, but I don't think Disney will miss the revenue.

My cousins own several rental properties in Destin. Last year she put utilities for a few of the houses in her brother and sisters names. All three families purchased the annual pass, 10 people total. Each family has taken two trips and are doing another before Christmas. Was it honest? Nope but they would not have added the other trips ans spent $$$$$ on food!
I was a little bummed we didn't get a utility bill as well;)

Absolutely not, if you're over 18 you will need to provide a Florida resident ID, Bank statement or tax bill. I'd recommend getting yourself a Florida resident ID.

It's gotten tougher, if you are over 18 you need to show a Florida drivers license or Florida state ID. You used to be able to show utility bills under your name or a mortgage statement but they want real solid proof now.

You will need to present proof of residency.

Here's the link with what Disney accepts as proof:

If he's listed on the deed, that should be fine, according to the list of documents Disney says they will accept.

Yep he is. It was all legal. So if I copy legal doc that should be fine for him Thank you.

Hold on, I misread the list above. It says deeds aren't acceptable, just a mortgage statement. Interesting.

Is he listed on the homeowners policy as one of the owners? That document is acceptable.

My apologies for the confusion.

Hey no problem you were trying to help. I thought that is what you said first anyway, so I clicked on link and saw no deed? weird. I will check about homeowner policy? but like I said on some I notice it says et al? on alot of legal papers Like I think tax bill. We did alot of the setting up stuff like utilities and pay out of a general acct that he adds money too. I will have to check all paper work now to see what actually has his name. We are DVC members so usually just get APs but it would be nice to be able to do some of the shorter ticket deals once in awhile as we do not go as much now, cutting back . Thanks any way. Just have to see what I can find for him. We used to get 10day non expire and stretch out but they did away with that.

I found it interesting they accept a monthly mortgage statement (who gets those anymore?), but not the actual document that proves you own the property the mortgage is on. Don't know too many lenders who will give you a collateralized loan for property you hold no ownership interest in.

Oh in buying this condo 4yrs ago we learned lenders do a lot of crazy things. It was quite an experience and not a happy one and getting all the names put on it. We both own and I mean OWN homes and have in bank cash way more that the value of condo, you would think easy peasy no way. After we were done I put the papers away and never wanted to see them again but I guess I will have to look and bring back old not so fond memories. I see you are going for Princess Half and staying at Copper Creek Villa should be great. We used to go for 3 weeks in Feb and March and were there for that event. Now we have our Fl condo over by the water so just go for maybe a short visit for Epcot Flower and Garden in March. You should get nice weather since we have used up all the cold we need down there this year so should warm up nice by then.

I was told that owning property does not qualify. If one was smart, one wouldn’t hand over their FL drivers license when getting a new one in a different state...unfortunately, I came to this realization too late. ;)

This is wrong. We own a house in FL and rent it out, because we are taking care of my wife's parents in Tennessee. I have a Tennessee DL. I still have a FL resident AP as does my wife. We renew it every year using our mortgage papers, we did it last year using a KUA utility bill. There has never been an issue with it. We have done this for the last 3 years.

BTW renewed our APs in April of 2017. I don't think anything has changed. If you are not on the Utilities or mortgage, bring 2 pieces f official mail, such as from a bank or a medical bill. That will be enough.

If you do not have one of the IDs indicated above, then you must provide one of the following—dated within the past 2 months—evidencing a Florida residential address, along with a corresponding picture ID (passport, driver's license, state identification card):
Proof of Current Mortgage
You may use a monthly mortgage statement from within the past 2 months; it may not be more than 2 months old. Deeds, mortgage contracts, mortgage payment booklets and leases are not accepted.
Bills, Policies or Registration
  • Current homeowner's insurance policy or bill
  • Current automobile registration, insurance policy or bill
  • Current Utility bill (power / phone / cable / water)
  • Bills can be no more than 2 months old (P.O. Boxes are not accepted as proof of residency)
Mail
  • Mail from financial institutions, including checking, savings or investment account statements
  • Mail from federal, state, county or city government agencies
  • Mail can be no more than 2 months old (P.O. Boxes are not accepted as proof of residency)

I'm curious to know where you got that because what you wrote is not accurate.
An annual pass buyer most definitely does NOT need to show either Florida driver license nor a Florida identification card. Other instruments demonstrating residency will suffice and have sufficed for years.

Used to secure AP's in Sept. '17
myself: bank statement
Wife: cable bill
Mom: property title

Used to secure AP's in December '17
Brother: bank statement
Sis-in-law: bank statement

Thus, on two very different occasions 5 adults secured AP's
without DL's nor state issued ID cards((((all 5 of us did this at Dis Springs Guest Services)))

Do you live in Florida, or just own property?
Meaning, where did they mail your info to?
