Question about the World

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me about that resort that looks like it is closed down near Ft. Wilderness. It's in the woods, and it looks like some of those "Home Away From Home" places, with the buildings in a semi-circle or octogon (bad spelling) shape. I heard the place has been closed down for years, but any history on it or any plans to either renovate it or tear it down and put something else in it's place?

Thanks

Sorry I'm a bit vague on the details but that's all I remember from my last trip in August when I saw them.

The treehouses are still there, but I don't believe they are in use. They will probably get knocked down to make way for another phase of Saratoga Springs :)

You see, they're building an army of them to take a trip down the road to Universal.

Okay, actually, the treehouses you speak of are within the city limits of Lake Buena Vista. And I believe (rumor anyway) that Reedy Creek decided that they can't be removed and replaced or something. So although I'm not sure if they're in use at the moment, I believe they are staying.

The Treehouses arn`t near Fort Wilderness.. although I`m glad they are staying. One small part of the original village, one small part of the original WDW (almost!)

Actually that AI's aren't using them right now because I believe the treehouses are being renovated. At least when I left my CP over the summer all of the AI's were either being placed somewhere in the regular CP apartment complexes or at Saratoga Springs. I believe when they are done renovating them, they are going back to being AI apts.

That is what they want you to think. The Downtown Disney and Magic Kingdom areas are very close to one another. There is a road that goes by Ft. Wilderness that will take you right up to the Port Orleans Resort and not that far away from DTD and the resorts near there.

The treehouses are currently closed, but can't be destroyed due to environmental laws. They will either come back in to operation one day or just sit there until they decay themselves.

Ah, this brings me back to 1986 - I stayed there - they were a great option for a large family. I completely forgot about them! Sorry they're no longer in use, it was a nice "getaway from Disney madness" within Disney...

In a previous thread about the treehouse villas someone said that some of them are currently used as office space. I would be nice to see them available to vacationers again.

Really? That makes me happy (can`t be destroyed, not decaying) - is that just the Treehouses or any more of the original WDW village complex (whats left of it?)

Last I heard, the Fairway villas were still there too. But, I also heard that their time is limited. I heard that they will be torn down sometime in the not so distant future to make way for stage 3 construction of Saratoga Springs.

I stayed there on my first visit (back in 1988). I had wanted to drive by for a couple of pics on my last trip, but there wasn't any time. Hopefully they'll still be there on my next trip, which is looking like November 2005.

When we were there in July we took the boat from DTD to POR. When we passed the treehouses we asked why they were closed up. The boat captain said that they had alligator problems and some lady was attacked by an alligator. I don't know if this is true or if he made it up.
