Question about the Contemporary

Do any insiders know if it is going to be refurbed any time soon. It looked like some construction was going on, but overall it is looking pretty rough and worn. The other deluxe resorts on the monorail line look wonderful but the Contemporary looks all the worse in comparison. Is anything coming or is it just coasting on being the closest the MK and that it is "The Contemporary?"

You could always try All Star Sports for an overall deluxe experience.

What's rough and worn about it? I happen to LOVE The Contemporary. I stayed there last year and the rooms were still looking good after their refurb in 2009/2010 or whenever that was. Granted, they're not the new studios at The Poly, but the rooms are quite large compared to other deluxe properties. I don't think it can be beat for location, decor, view, and amenities.

More the public spaces than the rooms (I didn't see those). Maybe it just needed some cleaning but the carpets looked bad in the area we were in in the Grand Canyon lobby and it just didn't look as clean as the other deluxe resorts we saw. We have stayed there before and loved it but it just looked dingy to me this time.

I was there in August, and I saw no issue with the carpets looking dirty, unless they were the temporary ones with the Contemporary logo, which are meant to get dirty so the others don't. It may be the fact that the public areas are so open, that they don't clean the carpets as often?

Ive never had a complaint for the cleanliness in ANY of my stays or visits to a deluxe hotel...... Only technology problems have burdened me.....

I stayed there while it was being refurbished and the construction walls had concept art for what was to come. I have to say it didn't really measure up to it. It looks fine, I guess, until you get to Chef Mickey's. Holy early 90's, Batman.

Agreed, Chef Mickeys needs a revamp out of the 20th century

The rooms at the Contemporary are going through a proposal for an upgrade now. The test room is still in tact in the tower. Along with it will be new levels of service and cleanliness that has been pretty lax property wide.

Are half the windows still covered up in the grand concourse?
I was there Friday morning and they were working on the windows on the north side; saw some guys caulking on the lower ones and there was a crew higher up doing some work. Some parts were covered.

Yes, from what it looks like the project is about halfway completed. They are replacing all the windows on the north and south ends.
I appreciate that if they see issues, they'll fix them, like these windows. There have been small refrubs here and there, but I don't think there going to be doing a full one for a while.

I do hope they move onto the skylights after these are completed. They are not in the best of condition at this time.
