Question about rides with children

I have 2 daughters, age 9 and 5. The older one is quite tall, but does not like anything too fast. She loves: Soarin', the teacups, Buzz Lightyear's spin, TTA, Mexico ride in Epcot - those sorts of things. I need some advice as to which other rides she might enjoy - how about Star Tours? Is this very scary and turbulent? She went on Wild Arctic in Sea World and did not like that at all.

Also, when we go, BB will be closed, so we are hoping to go to Typhoon Lagoon. I know she will not like the really fast slides, but as far as I can make out, the children's area is really for toddlers, and she will be to big. Is there a slide area for 6-11 year olds in TL?

Thanks for any advice.

i dont like fast rides at all, but love all the small one's, i world sugest stitch, all the ride for kid in the kingdom, small world, ect, movie ride, and stuff like that thought if she did not like wild artic, she most like wont like star tours which i quite jumpy.

I think you will find things that they like at Typhoon Lagoon. There is a wave pool, snorkeling area, lazy river along with family friendly slides. Check out the Disney website for a description of the slides.

I was the same way when I was younger..a little ride tentative (I'm still that way now actually :lookaroun ). Start tours is a little bit jerky but overall not to scary. If she is not fond of simulator type rides it is probably best to skip it.

Despite the name the Storm Slides at TL are pretty tame body slides.

Of the two single-person tube rides, the one with blue tubes is more tame than the yellow one (they're called Mayday Falls and Keelhaul Falls, but I can never remember which is which). The nearby family raft ride is also nice, but wait times tend to be longer than for the single-person rides, and you have to carry your own bulky raft up the stairs, unlike at Blizzard Beach.

Suggestions for the elder child. :D

EPCOT:
Journey Into Your Imagination w/Figment
Maelstrom (if the trolls won't scare her)
El Rio del Tiempo
Ellen's Energy Adventure
Living with the Land

MK:
Pirates
Jungle Cruise
Tiki Bird Room
Country Bear Jamboree
Haunted Mansion
Anything in Fantasyland unless she's scared of Snow White
Carousel of Progress

MGM:
Great Movie Ride
Muppet Vision 3D
Back Lot Tour
Voyage of the Little Mermaid
Sounds Dangerous

AK:
It's Tough to be a Bug
Primieval Whirl (sp?)
Kilimanjaro Safari

That's just a few from each park that I'm sure she'd greatly enjoy. Nothing too fast. Just good quality WDW magic. :D I hope this helps you.

My oldest is hesitant too. He was 9 when we last went. Primeval Whirl or anything remotely resembling a roller coater was not for him. He hated TestTrack and Goofy's Barnstormer. But he did go on Dinosaur because dinos are his thing -- and he LOVED it (meanwhile my knees were knocking by the time I got off that one!).

Might I suggest Birbaum's Guide to WDW for Kids? They do a really nice job of rating rides for kids in understandable terms (its, dark, its loud, etc). The guide really helped my kids to both prepare for the trip and more importantly, to prepare for the rides themselves. It was nice to put the decision in their hands and have them choose what to try.

Referring to star tours, it is a little bumpy, but the ride itself is rather mild imo. But it's not ACTUALLY moving, so maybe it wouldn't bother her.

Try and take her on Mission Space Green.

My sister is scared of most of the scary rides (She HATED test track and was crying afterwards) and she also didnt like wild arctic.

However, when we got off mission space she was so excited. She was so chuffed that she got to be the pilot and wanted to go on again but we didnt have time.

Take her to all the shows, they are great. My favorite is Indiana Jones at the Studios. Also the 3-D shows seem to be a great favorite of kids.

I would stay far far away from Star Tours. I love thrill rides and actually really like the theme of Star Tours but you really get knocked around by the jerky movements of the "ship" you are in. A lot of people get motion sick on this ride. I spoke to a CM once and he said that he had to clean up :hurl: at least once a day Body Wars (same ride, different movie) and often several times a day.

Have fun!
