Question about liquid medication

I hope someone here can help.....My son was just diagnosed with a double ear infection (poor kid) and we are leaving on Friday for WDW. He was given a prescription antibiotic in liquid form. We are flying out on Air Tran. Safety regulations say you can have a medication on your carryon if you have a prescription. Does the label on the bottle count or do I need a copy of the written prescription?Doctor said he should be fine to travel on Friday as long as antibiotics work. What timing! Thanks for any help!

The label counts. Just put it in a zip lock bag and let the TSA you have it. Sometimes they want it out of the bag and other times not.

If it's more than the 3oz limit, they'll want it in its own bag and to declare it to the person at the x-ray machine. If it's less than 3oz, you can just put it in the baggie with the other 3oz-or-less items in your carryon.

Again, it depends on the TSA person. I've brought large and small bottles, opened and sealed, in its own bag and mixed in with others and each time it was different. And I did tell her to tell the TSA inspector. I've had them tell me to have it all out with my electronics and such, leave it in the carry on bag and also put it in its own bin and that is all using the same 2 airports each trip.

The label on the bottle is fine. I've never had them care about my medication, but many other people have had issues. If they give you any kind of hassle, ask for a supervisor. The folks working for the TSA are not doctors, pharmacists, or any other kind of medical professional who has any business telling you about the necessity of your medications.

I'd definitely check out the TSA link, as that's where I've gotten my rule info before. My son has asthma, and we used to have to carry his nebulizer and liquid medication in addition to his spacer and inhaler on board. I must stress that you should definitely declare what you have as the TSA requests. Just tell them you have medicine for your child that you must carry on board. Also, make sure that you keep it in the bottle from the pharmacy with the precription info and not in a separate container.

What got me last time was that no one questioned the nebulizer (for those who don't know, it's a little air compressor that you use to deliver liquid asthma meds through a mask), but we got all kinds of questions about his spacer, which is just a hollow, clear plastic tube with a mask on it on our trip down to MCO (but not on the way back). I even had the prescription info for the spacer!

Now this time, we're traveling with a 10 month old as well, and that's a whole new ballgame in terms of traveling with juice and formula. At least it's just a 90 minute flight for us!
