Question about Boma

This is probably a really stupid question... :brick:

We are staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge this May and would like some information about Boma.

Do we have to make reservations, even though we are staying at the hotel? We will be hoping to eat there for Breakfast, and would probably decide the night before, is there any chance of just turning up in the morning?

I know it is a stupid question, as it is our 7th trip to the World - but we are normally a counter service customer and have never been in this situation.

Also any info on the food/service or anything else at all would be great,

Thanks for any help/comments! :slurp:

Boma's breakfast is great, it is a buffet, so not sure that eating there every morning is something you would want to do. I know I would probably explode if I ate there for a 5 or more days. Depends on when you are going in May and also what time of the morning you want to eat breakfast. If you tend to eat later in the morning around 10am you would probably not have such a problem just walking in as most people eat at the crack of dawn. I would recommend reservations in May for the following Mother's day weekend, Memorial day weekend and any Sunday's. Sunday's are generally busier in the hotel restaurants for breakfast because locals will sometimes eat out on Sunday's.

For Boma's menu and all other menu's this website is great http://www.allearsnet.com/. Also don't forget to try the funch juice!!

I would try breakfast and dinner, however I would make ADR, especially the dinner. Depends on the time you go also, if a hurricane has just hit, you'll be fine, but if it's mid-summer you will have no chance. Have fun!

As mentioned before make an ADR especially for dinner. Food is incredible but a little eclectic for some palates. There are plenty of safe food choices as well as a number that you won't find anywhere else on property.

For breakfast there is a juice mix (can't remember the name but someone will chime in with it) that is out of this world. Custom omelets along with standard breakfast fare are always available. Carved meats and unique sausages are also pretty common at breakfast.

At dinner you will usually see some carved meats, specialty soups as well as the kid friendly chicken fingers and mac n' cheese. There is also a desert called a Zebra Dome available at dinner. Like the juice they are incredible.

My advice would be to try a little of everything at both breakfast and dinner. There wont be anything too far out (no live blood worms, cow eyes etc) and nearly everything I have tried I have really liked.

Unless you are an incredibly picky eater you cant go wrong at Boma's

I've eaten in the evening there and it's definitely a must do for me. I think we Britons have a more adventurous palette that will fully enjoy the new tastes to be had there.

Just make sure you have a small breakfast and small lunch. There are so many things there you will want to try the all :slurp:

Also Mara - the counter service place - does a fantastic African Stew.

Back to the question about needing ressies for Boma breakkie - we didn't need them at all during the week during our trips in mid-Dec and late August, but on weekends it was absolutely PACKED!!

The AKL is absolutely fabulous, but one of the reasons why DH and I love it so much is because of its proximity to Boma!! :slurp:

Everyone I know who has gone to Disney in the past 2 years has told me I had to go to Boma....they couldn't believe I hadn't tried it yet. So now we have ressies for next Thurs! :sohappy:

I have heard wonderful things about breakfast and dinner....trying dinner this time. Maybe will have breakfast in '07 if we manage to stay at AKL for a couple of our days.

I have heard that even the line to check in can be long, so make sure you get there with enough time to spare.

Funny story: Had a doctor's appt last week and was telling my doctor about our upcoming trip. His eyes lit up and said "You have to try this place called Boma".
