Question about August

I have a quick question for those that have been late August- September and the second week of August.

I know that the crowds are better the later that you go because of more schools being in session already. I tell people the later you can go the better. That is why we always choose to go August into September but we absolutely cannot do that this year because of football practice. :brick:We would have to go the 16th -24th.

How much worse are the crowds really going to be? We are so used to the slow pace at the end of the month, I don't want to go and be miserable with the long waits. Touringplans shows the difference being up from 6 to 7 for the most part.

The plus here is that since we canceled our bounceback from last year that I did get the pincode that starts 8-16

Since the offer ends 10/01 I am not sure what else we could do. (Free dining works great for us and saves us the most money)

Thanks! :)

I used to go the last week in August...but then college started too early for me to continue doing that. The parks will be more crowded than what you are used to. Of course these crowds won't be at July or Christmas levels, but they will still be significantly more.

^ Thanks that is what I was thinking and I just don't know what to do. I am wondering if they would be comparable to maybe the week after President's Day? We went in 2007 that week and the first few days the crowds were heavier than what we experience in Aug/September but it wasn't that bad. However if it is like our Thanksgiving trip then I don't want to do it because it was horrible. I only have two weeks to make up my mind to book with the code.

We were there 12-20 last summer. We traveled Tuesday - Wednesday. We did notice a drop off in crowds the last couple of days so I think you'll be fine. I believe Florida schools go back the 3rd week. Keep in mind that tropical storms could always come through, though a little wind and rain doesn't stop us. The major rides will always have lines. We saw 30-40 for Space and Splash Monutains for example.

Schools here in Indiana go back before, or around, the 16th. I'm guessing that much of the country is the same.

You will probably want to avoid the parks on the weekends. During the "off season" and when school's in session, that's when locals go.

It's still going to be better than early August and July, which are both miserable.

There is word that they are trying to start school in parts of Florida a little earlier in August. Nonetheless, you can expect larger crowds in the mid- August time period. I have been there many times in August (as well as the rest of the year) and I have truthfully never found the crowds to be oppressive.

Thanks Coltow! :) I am used to the threat of storms and rain but we have been lucky in our August trips and had nothing major. Waits were way less than posted our last two trips though with Splash & Space being more like 20-25 Max.

Thanks. I just don't want it to be like our Thanksgiving trip. We are usually there Labor Day and that has not been that bad. We will be there over the weekend as well because we want to stay 9 days but maybe we can try to hit the right park.

Thank you- I think that we have become spoiled by the late August crowds but there is just no way to make it work this year. As long as it isn't going to be too bad- I guess that we will go for it. We save so much money that it would be crazy to wait until the first of December which will be the only other time we can do it. A crowded day at Disney I guess is better than one at home.

Thank you guys! :)

This sounds exactly like my family. We are considering the exact same thing for the same reasons. In fact our dates are identical as well. We also cancelled our bounceback. It is a small, small world.:):)
