QS Dining Plan ... allow substitutes?

So my DH is not much of a dessert guy. For our trip next year, if we decided to go with the QS dining plan, you get your meal, drink and dessert, right? I'll use this as a for instance: if we went to Flame Tree BBQ and he got the ribs with a drink and dessert, could he subsitute a side, like fries (something he loves) instead of a dessert? Me personally would take the dessert, but he'd prefer the fries.

I don't know about fries, but a few years ago (last time I did any dining plan), they allowed a small side salad for those of us who don't eat dessert!

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
Usually you can't substitute but it does not hurt to ask. I'm sure you know this but also most menu items come with sides. Like at Flame Tree the ribs come with sides (2 sides I believe if I remember right) but I don't remember what they are. Anytime we get anything it comes with some sort of side whether it's fries, chips, salad (Pizzafari with your individual pizza comes with a salad), etc. Just depends on where your dining at as to what sides they have. So don't worry he will have plenty of food and sides with the QS dining plan or any dining plan for that matter. Pretty much every place what you order is a whole meal, with also desert and a drink. :)

I did not know this! Thank you so much for posting! We will have the free DP and I was thinking that I would rather try some of the unique cupcakes and snacks (with a Snack credit ;)) rather than many of the CS desserts - not that there aren't some good ones, but this would be a good way to have a good meal & a unique dessert. And I wouldn't "have" to have 2 desserts :angelic:...I know, did I just say that??

I almost always substitute the dessert for a bottle of water, a yogurt or a piece of fruit. They have never had a problem with any of them. Typically my mom and I split a burger or sandwich and get the water for dessert so we both have a drink.

My DH drink water ....LMAO ... he hates water, although sometimes I do get him to drink it. I even tried buying those water enhances (MIO) to add flavor and that lasted about a week. I have gotten him away from coke/pepsi and he now drinks ice tea or lemonade instead.

If your DH has any medical issues that relate to his not liking desserts, I would preface your request with, "Excuse me, but my husband is under doctors' orders to [avoid sugar / limit carbohydrates / reduce fat intake]. Is there something else he could substitute for those super-sweet desserts on your menu?" Batting your eyes wouldn't hurt, either. ;)

He's had three angioplastys and probably shouldn't eat dessert, however, substituting with french fries would raise eyebrows, right? In fact our trip in '07, as we were making a mad dash out of EPCOT at the stroke of midnight on NYE, because one of my DSs was not feeling well, my DH got chest pains. He called his doctor who said get to the hospital or come home. We ended up driving back to CT and sure enough he needed angioplasty. But hey it might be worth a try anyhow.

I've heard they usually don't allow substitutions , but when at sunshine seasons last week a lady next to me asked for a fruit cup instead of certain things with her breakfast platter and the manager let her...

When we were there in August with 3 weeks free dining (still recovering) there were good cupcakes for dessert at BOG CS and at other CS locations there were special cupcakes on offer for a period of time.
