Was just wondering how many of you purchase Disney travel insurance and if you think it is worth it/a good idea. I am trying to figure out if I should or not. I want to save money but I am sure then something bad would happen!!

If you are flying then the answer would be a resounding yes. It seems like the majority of trips that get messed up are due to flights. The airlines just have so many ways to mess with a trip (mechanical and whether delays, lost luggage, canceled flights etc) that I would not go into one without a little protection from them. If you are not have a look and what vacation insurance covers and see if it applies to you.

I voted no, but....

I have Foreign Travel Supplementary Health coverage through my employer. I have Air Travel insurance through my credit card as long as the flights were paid for with the card. I have Vacation/Lost Luggage/Cancellation insurance also through the credit card.

I've very carefully reviewed each coverage and determined that I don't need what's offered elsewhere.

I always purchase travel insurance...but i would be mad not too living in the UK, i certainly couldn't afford the medical bills in the states, plus it covers the flights, luggage etc...different possibly when you live in the states.

Definitely for a cruise! International medical issues/transport issues and other items are very costly without insurance.

For a WDW/DL trip, sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.

You don't have to purchase the Disney insurance either - see insuremytrip.com for many other providers.

And read the fine print! You would be suprised at how vague some of the statements are and what leeway providers are given. Our 2003 trip on the way home, we get to the airport and are told the flight was just cancelled. After much hassle, they get us on another flight, 7 hour 50 minutes later. Problem was, that was overnite wait. But because it was within an 8 hour time window of the original flight, the insurance company wouldn't cover the cost of the hotel or meals we incurred. Not a great loss but soured us on insurance.

Well - I guess the only thing I am really concerned about is if we had to last minute cancel.
Now I have no intention of ever doing this. But you never know what can happen.
If you have to cancel a Disney package, do they allow it to be re-scheduled or is there a certain time frame for this?
The insurance isn't worth it for the flights alone. I only paid $189 for both of us, so it's not worth it to pay almost that much for insurance in case we don't end up using the flight. Might as well take my chance on that one.
But it's the trip itself I would not want to lose out on. Hopefully there would never be any reason but anything could happen to any one of us at any time so I am still undecided.

If you had to cancel at the last minute the most you would be out is $200. Disney has been known to be very flexible in cases like this. From my own personal experience they are very understanding and will work with you as much as they can. A lot would depend on the CM you speak to when you cancel. If you get a crabby one call again.

Thank you so much for that info. I really appreciate all the help I have received from these boards when planning.

Exactly! If we were driving, I wouldn't because I'm okay to lose only $200. But we've flown on our last three trips, so we definitely do!
