Public Transport from Pop to Universal

We are plannning a trip to the World in May this year and we will stay at the Pop. We also plan to visit (for the very first time) Universal Studios and need some informations about the public transportation from the Pop or DD to Universal as we want to know if a rented car is necessary or not? Is there a Lynx bus that connects WDW and Universal? How long does it take to get there and would you recommend to use the public bus to get there or should we better rent a car?
Thanks a lot.

I don't know specifics but I do know it take at least two hours to and from using public transportation. How many are in your party? You could either book a shuttle with Mears or bite the bullet and use taxis.

....it's a 1/2 hour drive from POP to Universal (we've done it several times)

...if time is important to you ...then a rental car may be the best option. I can't see using public transportation if the trip will take +1 hour....

I flew into orlando the day before thanksgiving to meet my sister and her family. they were driving so i decided to take Lynx to Epcot to spend the afternoon. 2 transfers, $2, and 3 hours later I arrived at epcot. the public transportation was fine, clean and efficient. However.....I work full time and 3 hours of my vacation time is important to me. next time I will take mears transportation which I found out would have been around $20. There are many options, check online. I don't think renting a car would be cheaper than Mears but don't know since I didn't explore that option. have a great time.

Well time is of some importance but half an hour is quite acceptable, thanks a lot.

I haven't taken a cab to Uni since 2009ish, but I recall it being about $80 round trip including tips. The Mears shuttles will probably be cheaper. Just make sure you're outside waiting for them really early, they've left without us before even though we were there a few minutes early.

I may be reading this chart incorrectly, but it looks like the shared shuttles are $20/person round trip, plus a tip.

I remember seeing a Youtube vacation video of a family that took the Lynx buses between WDW and Uni, and they were just miserable. With all the connections they ended up taking, it was hours.

Look into the Mears shuttles, or getting a single day car rental. Some of the DTD hotels have rental places, as does the Swolphin and the Car Care Center. The one at the CCC usually does free shuttles from your resort hotel, and the others are within walking distance from Disney transportation. You can usually find a car for $50 or less, so it may or may not better than using a shuttle. They open early enough in the AM to get the car, and get to Uni before Uni opens, and then you can just drop it off that night when they are done even if they are closed. Lynx is cheap, but requires 3 or so changes if I recall correctly and sucks up way to much time.

lilclerk would be correct, me and my partner used the Mears shuttle from kidani and from PORS and it was $20 in a shared taxi, very easy and convenient, just ask at Pop century's front desk and they should tell you the phone number for you to ring. enjoy yourselves.

Our taxi from Coronado to Uni is $44 both ways with tip... or $30 dollars from DTD both ways with tip.

We always take a taxi. I believe Mears shuttle has select pick up and drop off times and I have heard it can take a little longer because it is a shared service. Rental cars can be 50 - 60 dollars but then you have to factor in $16 - $22 for parking.

I think we are buying our universal tickets through dreams unlimited, you get the tickets and the transfer. seems like a good deal. Anyone else use them?
