Proposing during wishes, best location?

Hi all, I'm proposing to my gf this month at magic kingdom during the fireworks. I'm trying to decide where the best location would be that is on the magic kingdom property. I haven't been to the magic kingdom since I was 8(20 years ago) and I never saw the fireworks, and my gf has never been so I could really use an insiders perspective. There is a lot I don't know like how loud are the speakers(i want her to be able to hear a very brief speech before i propose)Is it do dark for her to see the ring? Is there a place that has a great view and not overly crowded inside the park? Do you think there is "too much" going on, meaning too many distractions and should do it sometime before the fireworks? An insiders perspective would be very much appreciated. I haven't seen the fireworks live and want to get it right for my gf. Thanks so much

Inside the park would be very crowded, hot, chaotic, loud, all of those things - during the fireworks. If you have your heart set on proposing during the fireworks, my suggestion would be to take the monorail to the Polynesian, and watch the fireworks from the beach. There will still be some people around, but you will have a lot more privacy and be able to have a "moment".

I have another idea too. If you do want to propose inside the park. There is a good 5 minute break inbetween "The Magic, The Memories, and You" castle show - and "Wishes" fireworks. Both are very emotional shows. That 5 minute break inbetween may be the perfect time to propose - and then you both can glow and really enjoy and appreciate the fireworks as the newly engaged couple. :)

Just a couple ideas for ya...

I think a special and a little more private area would be Standing by Cindrellas wishing well. It's kind of hidden to the right of the castle but it would be a great place.

I have also heard of people going out on the beach at the Poly to watch the fireworks and then purpose. That would be a lot more private and she would be able to focus more on you than everything going on around her.

What ever you decide, congratulations!!!

I've been hinting to my OH about WDW proposals! It hasn't happened our last 2 trips, here's hoping for Sept! Not holding my breath! Good luck!

The poly would be further away from the castle but much more private. If you want the whole experiance then i say do it front and center right near the castle :) congrats and good luck

i was going to propose during wishes as well. However during the show it was just too crowded and loud with the music and the fireworks so backed out last second. It seems like a great idea but in reality unless you don't mind the noise or are in the back near splash it might not be a good idea? at least it wasn't for me. instead we hung around the hub just people watching, watched the kiss good night and waiting for things to clear out. i suggested we take a picture in the rose garden and that is where i proposed. i gave the photopass person a heads up and she snapped about 10 pictures for us. Turned out great and now we also have a spot to come back to for a picture every year.

The above are all very good points. I've been to disney many many times but my wife and I don't usually stress much about firework locations at magic kingdom so I have done very little observation of the "best" place. However, during our last stay we got a coupon in the packet disney sends out about some sort of preferred viewing location for Wishes that you have to make a reservation for, I think it's in the hub (middle area). I would honestly call disney, waiting on hold and talking to their robot system sucks, but they may hook you on, keeping the magic and all.

Other thoughts:
(other people who do the Wishes show a lot, help me out here) Perhaps at the end of main street by the flag...how's the view there everyone? what about at the top of the train station?

In general, if you are proposing DURING wishes, get on youtube and find your spot, see where the show gets quieter and remember when that is, timing is everything.

Another idea, which you'll probably turn down but I'll offer none the less, how about Epcot's firework show illumininations. It won't be the same - no disney characters or castle, but it's a very very impressive firework show. I would argue more dramatic and impressive than Wishes. It also has two different almost ballad-like sections to it that could be good. There is also a much wider area to view the show from, unlike Magic Kingdom where you are stuck on main street really.

Alright, other thoughts - where ever you do it, it will probably go well, it doesn't have to be "perfect" yaknow, and even if you're having to yell a bit and there is a crowd, it kind of makes it a cool moment, like that scene from When Harry Met Sally, yaknow, loud party, but he yells out all the stuff - winner.

Other thought, sneak over to get relations or the front desk of your disney hotel some point beforehand and get the buttons, to be whipped out after - that'd be a good move. A good keepsake too. http://www.wdwinfo.com/images/2009-buttons.jpg

Good luck pal

Aw, how sweet!! I love hearing proposal stories from WDW!

I have to agree with what several others have said about going to the Polynesian. In the park,
the best views of the castle & Wishes are going to be pretty crowded. I love watching from the Train
Station - but there'll be lots of people. DH & I often watch Wishes from the Polynesian beach. It's never been
super crowded when I've been there (usually off season). I always thought it was pretty romantic.

Have you thought about booking the dessert party from the Tomorrowland Terrace? I've never
done it, but have heard it's great. You will have a good view of the fireworks with only the other
people who have booked the dessert party around you. You could hide the ring in a dessert
maybe? Haha. I would love to have been proposed to there. :)

I have a suggestion, there is a spot to the left of the hub when you are looking at the castle where there is usually a photopass CM located to take photos. It is before the brige to Tomorrowland. You could do it there just before the fireworks and the photopass CM could then get pictures and the castle would be in the background. Or, you could work with one of the CMs on main street and still have the castle in the background. If you see a photopass CM down in the little gazebo in the rose garden I would head there, you can get some great photos from there. I would not do it during the fireworks because just too much noise and distraction. The last thing you would want to happen is someone jostle you or step on you (if on bended knee) and drop the ring, etc. You get the picture.

Just a note: You can't get there before or during Wishes. They block off the side access as well as the area immediately behind the Castle before Wishes as part of the fall out zone for embers.

Does the polynesian beach have speakers/audio so you can hear the music and the characters speak?

The main area does I believe, and that's where the most people also go to watch for that reason. The area I watch from is to the left, toward the Grand Floridian. You can't hear the music, but there's been times where there hasn't been any other people. There's a porch swing, and sometimes we sit on that & watch. Sometimes we sit in the sand, or on lawn chairs. I like it from there the best, but if you want to hear the music you want to head over to the beach closer to the pool.

The Poly beach idea sounds like the best one to me, if you want her to be able to hear a speech before you pop the question. If you really want to do it in the park, Fantasyland isn't nearly as crowded as anywhere in front of the castle. Crowded? Sure, but you can still move around. I like it because some of the fireworks are set off at the castle and some are set off from behind Fantasyland; that means during the finale, you feel completely surrounded by the fireworks. It's a very cool experience and the big shells feel like they're going off right overhead. Watch videos on youtube to see if you think there's a quiet spot where you can propose. If you're standing behind the castle, you won't be able to see Tink fly and that's a good 20 seconds or so of relative quiet for you to work with.

During Wishes it is dark, loud and crowded. As romantic as the idea may seem, it may be a difficult moment to propose.

"What's that honey?"
"I said, will you mar..."
"WHAT I CAN'T HEAR YOU OVER THE NOISE"
"I SAID WILL Y..."

Just before Wishes might be great. It will still be crowded and dark. But now, you can have her say yes, then kiss the girl, and...*boom!* fireworks all over the place!
(Or, she says no, and now you can sneak off under the cover of loud fireworks and with everybody looking up so nobody sees your face full of tears and rejected shock)

Wishes Dessert Party sounds good too. You can first soften her defences with lots of chocolate!

I didn't think about that. It would be a great place, at a different time. I guess I would go with the Poly beach idea. Maybe have dinner at Ohana and then walk out to the beach, how nice would that be?!? I just think a moment like that should be a little more private to make it extra special.
