Progress vs Preservation

For Disney to stay around they need both. If there was only preservation then it would lose a lot of it's visitors becasue they wouldn't see the need(not us of course) but if there is to much progress then I don't believe any really good rides will be created, if the just started spitting out rides it wouldn't be good. I think disney just needs to find a more consistent balance.

PRESERVE----------PROGRESS

Mr. Toad------------Pooh
JIYI------------------New Imagination
World of Motion---Test Track
Horizons------------Mission Space
Spaceship Earth---Time Racers
20,000 Leagues---Ariel's Grotto
Mission To Mars----Alien Encounter
If You Had Wings--Buzz Lightyear

Other PRESERVE: Skyway, Carousel of Progress, Timekeeper, Wonders of Life

Other PROGRESS: Spash Mountain, Tower of Terror, Rock n Roll, Forbidden Mountain

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok lemme see here..

Mr. Toad was a classic, needed refurbs but classic none the less, thankfully there is still the original in Disneyland

Pooh... umm... i'm just not impressed by this ride, this was put in during a time when they obviously could have done better themeing, and you only have ONE figure in it that isn't on a cardboard or plywood backing.. not a suitable replacement and should have been it's OWN ride..

Journey was a good ride, had definable charaters, generally entertaining, LONGER than the current version, in alot of ways it was far superior to the current JOKE of a ride..

J.I.Y.I. - the second and third versions of this has really been a let down, it's now a short ride without much depth.. waste of money on both versions..

World of Motion/Test Track - Honestly i thought WoM was much better in terms of theming and quality.. Test Track teaches you NOTHING, doesn't really strike me as that entertaining, once you ride it once, umm.... not a good replacement.. if they wanted a QUALITY replacement for WoM, they could have intergrated both rides to make it work. Part 1, favors WoM telling history, Part 2 favors Test Track showing current testing and technology, part 3 would favor WoM showing where the FUTURE lies and what's to come.. plus do something with the exit.. looks too much like a dealership.. BAH!!!!!

Horizons/Space - Horizons was probably the best overall ride Epcot offered, too bad they had a crappy building for it :hammer: , Space... we'll see.... so far sounds good..

SE/Time Crappers - SE is THE classic at Epcot, yes it does need a few updates, but replacement, no.. As far as Time Crappers, cut a new path in between JIYI and the Land and make a NEW AREA SINCE YOU HAVE PLENTY OF FREAKIN ROOM and put whatever rides you see necessary :)

20k/Ariel - Umm... 20k needed updating and freshening up but what they have there now is plain crappy, if you need a character meet and greet.. head for Mickey's Toon Town.. don't just try to cover up the fact your too CHEAP to replace attractions.

Mission/Alien/Stitch - I never rode Mission so i have no thoughts there, Alien is kinda like Test Crap in the note after you ride it once, thrill is over.. wooooooooo... :hurl: , hopefully when they add Stitch to this attraction it will improve in the effect it will be entertaining at least twice..

IYHW/Buzz - Never rode IYHW but heard it was cool, Buzz in my opinion ranks in there with Pooh, Dino-crappa, and Aladdin in the effect they didn't spend squat on theming, they could have made this ride much better without using 98% of the props being painted plywood, I know they needed to replace the pre-existing here, but umm.. don't ya think a refurb would be nice to at least show you Disney still can create GOOD attractions??

Skyway - I can understand they got tired of loogies spit on people, but if you are gonna take it out and leave two empty buildings, REPLACE THEM WITH SOMETHING INSTEAD OF EYESORES :lookaroun

CoP and Timekeeper, Cop is a classic, needs major updating, A NEW GEAR SYSTEM THAT CAN BE MAINTAINED, and to be AVERTISED!!!!!!! Timekeeper even though it's cool really needs to be majorly refurbed or redone, could even be modified to be similar to Star Tours just much larger to enable the 360 screens but still be entertaining to more people because you can "ride" it rather than just stand there looking up..

Wonders of Life, maybe just maybe if you'd update it once a decade people might give a crap about it...

Ok, yes i understand rides sometimes need replacing, but remember what Walt said.. he bought 45 sq. miles of land so they would have the blessing of room unlike Disneyland, so how about growing outward instead of ripping out classics that may just be space fillers to some but cherished by others just in the sake of being cutting edge and current. Stay with what made us all fans in the first place, stay Magical to our hearts...

But what if they scrapped Haunted Mansion for some updated attraction themed to say, Treasure Planet? Would you still feel the same? Not me!

There can be a certain balance of preservation/progress...they could even give it a Disneyized name..."progrevation"...

Seriously, though. CoP needs to be preserved because of what it meant to Walt. Update the ride, yes, but preserve the idea.

Bring back 20,000 Leagues and update it for today. There is better technology available to make that ride more attractive.

PoC and HM must be maintained as they are. The theming doesn't have to be cutting-edge because the theme itself is based on a time gone by.

I don't mind the Time Racers concept...except the part where it leaves the building and then returns. Please don't destroy the continuity of the geodesic design of "the ball". That gaudy sign on it is bad enough.

I could go on, but I will stop here. Maybe you agree with me or maybe you don't, but it's still a free country. So I'll have my opinions. And I won't let any celebrities try to persuade me otherwise! ;)

Support our troops!

No offense to you, but Disney has to appeal to younger audiences. Just because you don't like thrill rides, doesn't mean that they shouldn't have any. Quite frankly, WDW doesn't have enough of them and they're losing business to IoA. I never got to see "World of Motion", but I like "Test Track". I also love "Tower of Terror" and "Rock-n-Rollercoaster". And I'm almost 32...no kid myself.

The point is, one day, all of us "old people" will be gone and today's young people will be, hopefully, bringing their kids to the park. If you can't get them there now, when they're young, maybe they'll be remembering over at Universal...

I don't want that to happen to the Mouse.

A few years back my brother's family made their first trip to Disneyworld. As a Disney fanatic I was very excited for them and loaded them up with great advice on all the attractions they had to see.

Just one problem... they have two teenagers in their family. Turns out they didn't like my advice very much. They were in-and-out of Magic Kingdom in less than a day. One day in Epcot was more than enough. They hit Animal Kingdom one morning and MGM in the afternoon and hit all the high points of these parks. The teenagers were bored!

So they went to Islands of Adventure and had a BLAST! They loved Hulk, Spidey, Dueling Dragons, Ripsaw Falls, etc. They had such a good time that they bought another ticket and went to Universal Studios the next day. They all agreed that Universal was better than Disney. They didn't even use all the days on their Disney hopper passes!

I tried to defend Disney... I WANTED to defend Disney. But I realized that I have younger kids who love Fantasyland. For a family with older kids, it's a whole different ball game.

When my kids get older, we'll visit Universal for a day or two also... but my hope is that by that time, Disney will have improved to the point that we can stay "in the world" for the most part and never run out of magic!

i agree with many of you for the most part. i am a 16 year old aspiring imagineer, and constantly come to realize because of my love of quality, detail, and everything that makes disney so unique, i am one of the FEW 16 year olds that feels disney never gets old or too childish or what not. i too always find myself attempting to defend disney but constantly realize that universal orlando is the "place to be" for my age group, and for many families infact, they feel its all so much "newer, cooler, more thrill-pleasing, and undoubtably CHEAPER" and i even realize its a loosing battle, and i secretly have to agree with them occasionally; i cant deny the fact that IOA has several phenominal rides. so hopefully disney will continue to discover they need some thrills inorder to keep bringing in the guests (however do it right! -using the well known attention to detail and great story lines/themeing that makes disney, disney!) so again, hopefully disney will do things right, and hopefully sooner than later, so that maybe one day within the near future, disney will be the "place to be" for the thrill seaking crowd as well as the kind of people we are (the hardcore disney lovers):sohappy:

If you're talking about rehabbing an already existing ride, it seems to me from reading the message boards for the past year or so, that most people seem to be disappointed with the newer version of the ride. They seem to like the older version better. (The original JII to JIYI for example. That seems to be one most people agree on. The one exception seems to be JIYI to JII with Figment - ironic, no?)

If you're talking about removing older rides for something new, it would depend on the ride. I believe they should leave the classics alone. (Haunted Mansion, Pirates, etc.) They are part of the reason people keep coming back. But with only having so much room in each park to add new rides, they have to find room for newer rides someplace. Removing rides that aren't as popular seems the way to go. Unless they add yet another park.

My views are kind of mixed. I've been to WDW twice. Once in 2000, once last year. (Possible third trip in September if I can save the $$.) I never got the chance to see such rides as JII, Mr. Toad, or Horizons. After reading how sentimental some people are about those rides, it makes me wish I got the chance to see them. With talk of updating Alien Encounter and Spaceship Earth, I can see how people can get upset about losing some of their favorites. It's not that those rides are among my favorites, but from what I've read about what they plan on doing to them (rumors?), it makes me wish they would leave them alone. To add new rides and have to decide where to put it and which ride needs to close, which would I choose?

It's kind of a darned if you do, darned if you don't situation. (Or words to that effect.)

I belive they should keep adding new rides to make the park more enjoyable for people that keep coming back, but leave the rides they currently have alone.

Make sense?
