Yeah, so this fine upstanding individual lives above me. I've been in constant conflict regarding blasting music and pot smoking at all hours because of this individual. Upon contacting housing administrators about it, my suitemate and I have been met with threats screamed at our door. Well, looks like he's in for it now!

"He tiptoed through the unlocked door of his accuser's room, police sources and court documents said".

You people are in NYC! Keep your doors locked.
I'm sorry for the girls, but hopefully he won't be back anytime soon. (and why do these guys always go running, crying to mommy?)

NYC, yes... but secured dorms. People need ID's to get past security. So, technically, the only things that could happen is an attack by another student... which, is what happened,

Word has it this is actually only one of two attacks... that he did it to another girl a week later.

Umm...I don't care if it's a secure dorm or not...why would anyone leave their door unlocked? (Granted, this does not make the crime any better...but there are some precautions that need to be taken here!) I'm just thinking of how many laptops must be laying around in each dorm room...(I'd say probably at least one per student)...Digital Cameras, Video game systems, stereo systems, PDA's, mp3 players, etc...This is stuff that people want...why would anyone leave the door unlocked???

Well, nevertheless, hopefully this guy gets what he deserves...ever hear the song DateRape by Sublime? :lookaroun

And, neither victim reported as soon as it happened. Sound familiar?

cough Tigger cough :lookaroun

Honestly though...I have never been raped...but I've heard from many people that have...

They don't come right out because they are embarrassed or ashamed...Someone "took" them...

I don't think that it sounds "fishy" if someone says that they've been raped...and then others come forward...they come forward after the fact because now they know that they're not alone!

(Granted, this isn't ALWAYS the case...but it is sometimes)

Exactly. For whatever reason there is still some ridiculous stigma attached to rape victims. I hope it changes very soon.

Brian, you are so right. Even in this day and age its the girl who gets blamed for being the victim. There are soooo many assaults that go unreported because they are ashamed and don't want to be victimized again by the authorities. Plus many of them are threatened with more harm (or death) that they just keep it to themselves. I knew one girl who didn't report it because her parents would make her "come home". She had to fight to go away to school because they were afraid something would happen to her.

The problem with co-ed dorms is that once everyone is comfortable seeing the other people in the dorms, they let their guard down. Guys rooms are across from girls rooms and so forth. Just because you might feel comfortable with the people in your dorm shouldn't mean that you fully trust them. Especially in NY.

My friend goes to a school in MI and he is in a co-ed dorm too and these things still happen. The school should also be held responsible because they put the temptation right in the students faces by making co-ed dorms.

Im not saying I'm against it, just saying it's easier to get into a room of the opposite ______ that way.

Personally, I don't think coed dorms have anything to do with the situation. This attack actually took place at an all girls dorm (although that article does not indicate as much).

Some never report it at all
especially if it was an aquaintence or date rape
