Problem - Guests on SSR busses from theme parks to DTD

There is a problem that keeps getting worse with guests using the Saratoga Springs busses directly from the parks as a quick/easy way to get to Downtown Disney. My family and I just returned from our annual Walt Disney World trip staying at Saratoga Springs (our DVC home resort) once again, and each year this problem has existed, but unfortunately it is now worse than before. This year, every bus we boarded to go back to Saratoga Springs (day or night from any park) had multiple people (not staying at SSR) asking which stop to get off on to get to Downtown Disney, etc.

I completely understand the Walt Disney World bus transportation can be used by anyone staying on property…my family has also used other resort busses to get to a dining reservation somewhere else, etc. but there are a few issues happening at Saratoga Springs specifically that is getting bad and that Disney needs to consider taking a look at.

1- Saratoga Springs guests are having their bus space taken up by many non-Saratoga Springs guests which means a couple of things are happening (again I witnessed all of this multiple times)
a. Some SSR guests were left waiting in line for the next bus due to full busses with many of whom are simply looking for a quick/easy way to get to Downtown Disney
b. Many SSR guests (children and some parents holding small children, me included) were forced to stand because several of the seats were taken by those just looking for a quick/easy way to get to Downtown Disney

2- Some guests are parking at Downtown Disney, walking to SSR, and catching the Disney bus to the parks so they do not have to pay for parking. I’ve overheard people talk about this on our busses so it is happening from time to time but it’s not too frequent from what I can tell. My guess is some people board the Magic Kingdom resort area busses as well at DTD to do this but I have no proof of that.

I absolutely love Saratoga Springs, that is why we made this our home resort. As a Disney Vacation Club member, my family has spent and continues to spend a lot of money for these deluxe accommodations and we would expect bus service accommodations to be the same (or even better) than value resorts where we have also stayed at before.

The problem in my opinion is two-fold:
1- There are no busses directly from the parks to Downtown Disney (therefore they simply board the SSR busses)
2- The bus drivers tell them how to do this! (I’m not blaming them, they are simply answering the question when they are asked “how can I get to Downtown Disney”…unfortunately “just get on the SSR bus” should NOT be the answer)

I’m hoping Disney can take a look at providing a direct bus from the theme parks to Downtown Disney. I understand why they should not “pick up” guests at Downtown Disney to go to the theme parks as more people would take advantage of the free parking so if there could just be a pickup at the parks and a drop-off spot at Downtown Disney I think this would eliminate a lot of the problems with the SSR busses (and/or the bus from Downtown Disney after dropping off guests from the parks could even service another resort instead of going back to the theme parks – not sure how the bus system fully works but this may be an option as well)

I know some of you probably haven’t experienced this or may even think this is not a big deal and how everything is supposed to be… but when you are left waiting on the next bus or having to stand holding an infant while the bus is close to half full of those just going to Downtown Disney…I just don’t think this is fair (over and over again) and is something that could easily be corrected. Your thoughts?

Different trip and the problem is worse

My hope is someone from Disney realizes the problem this is and gives SSR more busses or runs a separate bus from the parks to DTD

Then your best bet is to write to them explaining exactly what your issue was and ask that they get back to you to address it. While it is possible that someone working for Disney will see your post here, they will not respond to you. Get in touch with them directly and they will be much better suited to address your concerns.

I wasn't going to waste my time bringing this to their attention while I was there knowing it wouldnt be corrected that week

Wouldn't it be better to contact Disney directly about a situation that has gotten worse, rather than beginning a carbon copy of a previous thread that obviously had no impact on improving things?

Never said it wasn't. But as Evan pointed out, you had a similar thread before, opinions were shared, and the situation didn't improve, according to you. Better to contact Disney directly than going through all of that again here.....

Ok so I contacted Disney but because I posted about the problem on my last trip I'm not allowed to do it again and start a discussion?

It would receive more attention there than here, especially if enough people complain directly.

Face to face is ALWAYS more effective than email or phone, especially once you have left.

I did and i dont expect every discussion to have an end...its a discussion. Wow I visit this forum multiple times a day but I must say I'm surprised by the response/reaction for actually starting a discussion on this regarding my most recent trip. Just close it I guess...sorry for wasting everyone's time on this.

I don't think anyone was trying to say you're wasting anyone's time.

In short, they appear to have tried to figure out if you:

A) Complained at the time [the most effective approach IMO]

B) Complained one you were home

I think [I could be wrong] the posters were trying, in a roundabout way, to recommend that your best course of action is direct contact as soon as possible with Disney management. The references to your previous post were perhaps [again, I could be wrong] an attempt to point out that adding to the original thread would keep the discussion from repeating previous pros and cons from that thread.

Sometimes emotions and intent are not readily clear in typed text and I hope that's all that's at play here. Don't get too upset, I'm sure you'll get an answer from Disney. Whether they see it as being as significant a problem as you do, only time will tell.

I recommend a call to Member services after every trip. Tell them the good and bad. After all, you've just dropped a significant wad of dough on a vacation to their resort, and letting them know how your experience was can only have a positive effect on your next trip. Being DVC members, we've already invested in many vacations to WDW, so it's like managing your investment more than anything else.

The people boarding the Resort Line for the Mono to get to TTC to bypass the Express Line is detracting from the experience of Resort Line guests. It is appalling! I cannot believe it!

I stay SSR a couple times a year and never seen it as that big of a problem. So if I were staying SSR and wanted to visit DtD after a park, you were beside me on the bus, and I asked the driver which stop to DtD then you would lump me as a parking bypasser? I think more SSR guests see DtD right across the lake and want to go at night since it is in sightline. Taking an SSR bus to get to DtD is hardly anymore convenient than hopping OKY or CBR amongst others.

#1 - the monorail resorts you are talking about is only a problem (which is not that big) for 1 of the 4 parks plus they have 2-3 modes of transportation to get to/from their resort unlike SSR....I can't take a boat from Magic Kingdom to get to SSR so it's bus or our own car

#2 - If you were truely staying at SSR and had to ask the bus driver which stop to get off on to get to DTD you would possibly:
a. be at SSR for the first time and not know anything about it
b. not have done any research before hand (I know many don't so that's possible)
c. be visually impared and not see the big yellow balloon directly across from Congress Park
d. not have looked at the map they give you at check in or listen to them tell you about the walkway at checkin
e. not have looked at the maps at all the bus stations and around the resort

Trust me on this... it is NOT SSR guests that are in the majority of doing this. You can easily spot the non-SSR guests...and usually from them talking about it.

... otherwise I would have just have resigned myself to a good laugh at the deja vu that is this thread.

Do you honestly think that every post on a "discussion board" is of something brand new that has never been asked, talked about, or discussed before? Maybe in the news and rumors board... but not these. I'm not sure why everyone is acting so over the fact that I posted something about my most recent trip that was similar to the experience I had on my previous trip a year ago. :brick: How do you people stay happy at the parks being this critical of everything?

I dont think people are being critical of everything, I think they are saying that this was beaten to death a while back and the point now is tell Disney

If I had a complaint like yours I would not have left without writing it up. They do make changes when enough people complain. Look lots of us had comments on BLT when it opened and changes were made.

How did you contact them?
