While visiting Animal Kingdom on Sunday, we headed over to Dino-Land to ride Primeval Whirl. This was my third time and my girlfriends first.

The problem is that our car did not spin at all! So we got to the bottom, told the person letting us out and he offered for us to ride again, so we did.

We got into a different car and that car did not spin either.

Some of the cars were spinning, and actually, on the second ride, it started to spin as we came around the last corner.

What is up with that? This ride has only been open for a month and already it is having problems?

The thing about it not spinning is that it really does HURT! You go into a few of the turns pretty hard and it slams you into the side.

I sure hope they get this fixed quickly before someone really does get hurt!

Just my two cents.........

They just opened a similar attraction here at Paramount's Carowinds, thats doesn't spin.

It's pretty painful.

I couldn't imagine spinning through hairpin turns.

It must be you, I rode it 3 times Saturday and it was spinning like crazy each time.

form just watching it run for a while, some cars do spin more than others.

Plus the weight and distrubition of people in the car, also effects how it spins.

If everyine is the car is roughly the same weight, it won't spin as much as when the heavier people are on one side.

Same Thing Happened to Me!

I was in Animal Kingdom last Thursday and had a similar experience. It was the first time I had ever ridden Primerval Whirl. Watching the cars spin, I thought... "This looks pretty cool!". But when I got on the ride, my car did not spin at all. It was very jarring when you took the turns and I did not enjoy the ride at all.

We complained when we got off the ride but just got shrugs. There was no wait so we could have ridden again... but as we stood there wondering whether we wanted to try it again (we were still rubbing our ribs from the first time), the ride broke down entirely.

We left and I vowed not to hurry back.

I rode it during the first week of operation, the CM running it told me how to get maximum spin. He said as soon as you feel the car start to move, everyone lean in that direction and it will get it spining. I tried it on all 3 rides and my wife and I got it spining like crazy all three times. Hope this helps.:animwink:

I haven't ridden the ride yet but I hope it doesn't give me the same problems everyone else has. Oh well I'm looking forward to it anyway.

Heading for the great escape.
Spinning cars that hurl you dangerously around, Bugs that lacerate youre back in the dark, animals that could eat you if they scale the pits catch the truck and havnt been fed for days, bouncing monstercar that jars you and deafens you with excessively loud dino noises.
I take it AK is now so tough that they train the Special Forces there.

That's right. I almost drowned on the ride this past Saturday!

As for Primeval Whirl, about 1/3 of the way through the ride we started spinning and continued spinning for the rest of the ride. We even changed directions at least once. On the whole we enjoyed the ride and would definately ride it again. The hairpin turns at the top (before spinning started) were a bit jarring but other than that we had no problems.

Has Worked in the past

Just to clarify, the first 2 times I rode it a few weeks ago, everything worked great. But this past weekend was really different. To ride it twice, in two different cars, and both times the car not spin isn't right..... We saw a maintenance guy watching the cars as we got off the second time, so I hope they are fixing the problem.

I rode it a month ago and I swear our car was welded tight to remain stationary. The car ahead of us was going nuts, but despite all our collective effort--three 200 lb+ guys and one medium sized kid--we got nothing.

We rode on the track on the right hand side as you face the ride (w/Triceratops Spin at your back). I asked a CM who was working the lines and prepping the opening of the left side why all the cars don't spin and, particularly, why the CM ride operators don't ask you as you board if you want to spin or not.

She said more cars spin on the left track than they do on the right and gave me no answer for why they don't ask. Guess it's just not in their policy. I think it's worth a minor gripe because most of the people who get in line want the spin effect. All they have to do is post signs along the way that say in effect, "please inform the ride operator/CM if you'd prefer a non-spinning vehicle").

Without the spin, the ride was no better than a kiddie coaster at most county fairs.

Do I think PW is a dog? Not really, because this stupid non-spinning crap is totally fixable. I force myself to remember that I rode the thing during it's first few weeks of operation. Maybe in a few weeks they'll work the bugs out and get all the glitchy ride vehicles off the tracks.

Let's at least hope so.

Think of Primevil Whirl as a Tilt-a-Whirl on a track. You have to shift your weight from side to side to make the car spin at the right time. If your car is already un-even weighted, it SHOULD spin by itself.

They cars spin freely and are not programed to spin by a motor or at certain times. Keep trying to shift your weight. Remember, Dinoland is a carnival-like area so you have to expect some very jerky rides like that at an actual carnival.

Oh, so much complaining!

I rode the ride about 3 weeks before it officially opened. The ride was fine. Spinning depends on weight distribution, not on total weight. That means you should put your heaviest in one corner and your lightest in another. Having a total weight that is really heavy (such as the 3 200+ lb guys) will put too much pressure on the spinning joint increasing friction and reducing spin.

Moving your body to work with the curves will also help. A sudden weight change timed perfectly to a corner can result it a massive spin.

Basically it's folk-physics and not rocket science.

Another thing, there is a special lock on the turning mechanism that will not activate until about 2/3 through the ride (for safety primarily, because some of the initial turns would be too much otherwise). So, don't expect to be spinning all of the time.

As for one side of the ride (right v. left) spinning more than another, give me a break guys. Logic! They are mirror images. At best, you could argue that the rotation of the earth was causing a certain momentum that gave one track a greater predispostion to spin. But honestly!
