I was doing some advanced research on a trip about this time next year (late sept-early oct) 9 nights for 2 adults 1 child with 10-day magic your way tix with park hopper option, at a moderate resort with the dining plan would cost about $3250.00. Does anyone know if it would be cheaper to get 1 annual pass for the hotel discount. If so can you still get the dining plan or do you go with the dde card? Any help is appreciated.

As far as I understand, you can still get the dining plan as long as you buy at least a ticket for one day as part of a package.
However, I also believe that everyone in your party must have the same ticket package; therefore you may end up negating all savings by
having to purchase tickets seperately on top of all three single day tickets and the DDE card.

I may be wrong, but I've tried looking into the same thing in the past, and I think that's where I ended up.
Hopefully somebody chimes in and corrects or backs me up

I would wait to book your trip since that is the time of year they tend to offer free dining, or if you do want to book it now, I would book it through Kingdom Konsultants because if the Free Dining offer does come out for the dates you are planning to go, they will rebook you automatically.

If you go the AP route, you have to book a package and with the package at least buy a one day base ticket for everyone in the room, since they must have the same tickets. What I have done in the past even though I have an AP, is get the base ticket and when I get there after checking in, go over to the conciege desk with the other tickets and up them to the 7 day pass or whatever number of days I need. I will save my one day base ticket and use it as a credit for when I renew my AP. However, when renewing the AP this way you must do it in person. You can also save the ticket and use it any other time you go down to Disney, just bring it to the concierge in the hotel or guest services in the park and you can upgrade it.

With APs, you can now purchase the DDP without having to buy a ticket as part of the package. Usually, any AP discounts also have a code that includes DDP.

There is an easy way around the "everyone has to have the same tickets on the package" thing.

If one person needs only a 1-day ticket and others need bigger tickets, buy the package with a 1-day ticket for everyone. At any time AFTER you check-in to the resort, you can upgrade/add to each ticket individually. In other words, once you've checked-in, the package has been "exploded" (in Disney-speak) and each individual is free to add to his/her ticket any way they see fit. They are all individual tickets with no strings attached after the moment of check-in.

That's how you get around it.
