Pretty bad trip!!!!

Just go back and i have to say that it was really bad. Stayed at WL and i really think this resort is highly overated. The only good thing that happened was that we got a room with a good view of the lake. Every day we had trouble getting food at the food place because it is simply too small. The bus service was a joke this week. I dropped tons of "F" bombs while waiting for buses. At one point it took about 1 1/2 hour to get to a park. Next complaint on my list is FASTPASS, I know many love it but i really believe it is ruining the parks. I couldn't get on test track with my son because all the fastpasses were out by early afternoon and the regular line is now pretty much secondary and takes forever. I think fastpass is especially a waste of time on rides like buzz lightyear and haunted mansion. Example: On our first day we waited forever to get on buzz light year, but on the night of the halloween party with a line way out the door we still only waited a few minutes. This was my fourth trip since 98 and cost me the most. It was by far the worst. Now we can talk about how many rides are in disrepair. I can't even begin to count how many things were not working!! Most of all i am truly embarrissed because i had 10 friends go with us that i had been telling what great job disney does and every one of them said they would not go back!! I can tell you it will be a very long time before we go back. :( :( :(

That's exactly how I felt. I wish I uderstood why they wait for fastpass people and not let the standby line go by. It really makes no sense, but I'm sure there's a reason.
Thats what I'm saying! If they would just tweak the way CM's handle the balance between the FP and the Stand by lines, things would run alot smoother.

I'm sure alot of CM's have taken massive amounts of verbal abuse because of the FP lines, all the more reason to alternate line flow.

The CM have to take so many fast pass and then so many standbyers. Its a ratio thing. (thats what i have been told)

Maybe they ought to adjust that ratio a little. I think they should show a little more respect to people who have been standing in the Standby line for 30-45 minutes. If the FP machines are empty for the day, then the people in the standby lines are there cause they had no other options.

Don't get me wrong, I use FP alot, but some people abuse the FP system too. I have seen people come up and grab a FP for a ride that had no wait, that is why the machines run out so quickly on some rides, cause people get them even when they don't need them. I understand they are getting it to use later in the day, but you're there and there is no line. Why not walk on in and enjoy it now?

Why would you or your party complain about hotels anyway? You should have been enjoying the rest of what disney had to offer than worrying about wallpaper.
Also, Disney is ALWAYS refurbishing, renovating, or building something for your future enjoyment. We are talking about a system that rarely closes. When do you suggest they do maintenace work?
*This isn't meant as an attack, although it could be read as one.
If your friends didn't enjoy disney, then obviously you guys didn't take advantage of the many wonderful things disney has to offer. Disney is more than an amusement park. To think that fastpass killed your joy is silly. :hammer:

That is exactly what I'm talking about. :D That would be much more fair to those who either choose or MUST wait in the standby line.

I think the fastpass would at least be better if they limited the tickets per hour better. The thing that really gets me is before if i had to wait in a long line at least it moved and you would be different que areas. Now you sit in the same spot and i this is the reason i really hate the parks at home. At six flags and hour line is unbearable because your usually staring at pavement for the hour.

I also love how people in here are nearly attacking me and trying to rationalize for me why i was unhappy. Simply put things were not up to the standards that i expect when i go to disney. I have heard many other people say the same thing. My wife and i were actually going to buy into the vacation club this year and are now going to wait a while. I understand that some things are being refurbished and that some things were because of the hurricanes. I usually have nothing but great things to say about disney and it kills me to have been unhappy.

I forgot to mention how the one time we did use fastpass we still waited 45 minutes to get on a ride!!!! What the hell is the point. Test track had a 30 minute wait even for fastpassers the three days i went. At one time they stopped issuing fastpasses and the return times were like 2-3 hours later. Give me a break.

Whereas I can totally understand your frustration, I don't see really where you can blame Disney for this. If the crowds get out of control, what can they do other than deal with it the best they can?

I mean, if 1,000 people get a fastpass before you, why is that Disney'a fault? This really is not an attack. It just sounds to me as if you're incredibly frustrated by the crowds that were there. It's well know that when Disney gets crowded, it gets VERY crowded. You just need to grin and bear it.

I don't think Disney goes out of it's way to make people wait in longer lines. I don't agree that they should charge a higher price for use of fastpass. I can guarentee if they ever did that, there would be far more complaints about them doing it that way.

I was there for Frances, and the parks were closed for 2 days. Was I annoyed? Of course I was, but there are certain things that truly are completely out of Disney's control. Sorry.

I was at Space Mountain in the standby line and asked the CM how he determined how many people in the standby line to go through. He told us the ratio at the time was 15 fastpass to 5 standby. It probably changes according to ride and crowds.

Another reason the FP line could end up with a long wait...

It's very unlikely, but IS possible that every person who gets a FP between the 1:05 - 2:05 block and the 2:05 - 3:05 block all use them at 2:05. Thats a whole lot of people in the FP line all of a sudden. Again, unlikely, but I'm sure varying degrees of this can cause the ebb and flow of the FP line.

Hey Kunzeworld. Sorry you had a lousy time. My wife and daughter went to the MK on Sunday, 10/17, and also experienced several technical glitches that were frustrating. See my thread about it here:

http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=46090

But about Fastpass, we really enjoy it and think it's a good idea. I think if it's used properly, you can make the best use of your time in the park. We will basically plan our whole day around it. Since our favorite attractions are SplashM, BTMRR, SpaceM and Philharmagic, we will use FP for only those attractions. Once we arrive at the park, we will usually head to Frontierland and get FPs for one of the mountains. Since it can't be used for about an hour ahead, we will then visit another, less popular attraction such as Tom Sawyer Island. If there's still time left before we can use our FPs, we'll get an ice cream and watch people come down SplashM. It's all in how you plan your day. I would suggest you grab an FP for your favorite ride, then stay off the beaten path until it's time to use it.

Are FPs unfair? Absolutely not! They are first come, first serve. If all the FPs are gone for a particular ride, I don't get ed off. I'll stay in the area, visit another attraction, then come back. Like I said, it's all in the planning. Second, if you are holding a FP for a particular attraction that's good for, say, 12:30 to 1:30, no FP machine in the park will serve you a FP for the same or a different attraction until 1:31. Third, if crowds are light, chances are FP won't be operational. We visited in early September, when most attractions were 10 minutes or less for standby. On that day, all FP dispensers in the MK were covered and chained up. Seems logical. And finally, it has been my experience - at least on our favorite rides - that while the FP line does indeed move quickly, there is usually a pause at the head of the line as the FP and standby lines merge into one - kind of like merging into one lane in a highway construction zone. I've never seen a continual stream of FP holders allowed all the way through while the standbyers are made to stop and watch with sad faces. There has always been a merge system. But like I said, that has been my experience. Now, in the case of BTMRR, which has two sides, one side was for FP holders, and the other for standby. That's how it was operating when we visited on 10/17. The FP side was moving along very quickly, as you can imagine. And on that day, standby was about 45 minutes, which means the enormous cue area was almost full. So as a FP holder for BTMRR, yes, you may feel a little funny walking unobstructed to the head of the line while all the folks in standby are wondering how on earth you got so lucky.

So that's my take on the FP system. I agree, it is abuse to use it for an attraction with a 10 minute standby. I'll wait that long in the Publix Deli, so no biggie. But if you plan your day around it and use it for only your favorite rides, I guarantee you will have a very enjoyable day at any of the parks. As for technical glitches and peeling wallpaper, well, I'd still give my hard-earned money over to The Mouse, because if I've already accepted that not everything is going to be perfect (and nothing is), chances are I won't be disappointed. Oh, and if it's a day-trip, I also accept that I may miss one or two of my favorite rides.
