Pressed Pennies

I don't mean to belabour the topic but has anyone used Canadian pennies in the pressed penny machines?
I know that the quarters are completely different but the pennies look like they have the same shaped edge and are about the same size.

(since I don't seem to have enough US pennies it would be a great fate for all those pennies that we can't use for payment any longer )

I've never used a Canadian penny in the machines, but I can't see why you couldn't. They just get squished, so I doubt the machine is that picky. I would try it!

It's certainly worth testing one out. The only thing I'm not sure of is if the coin's composition affects its 'squishability'. Canadian pennies are almost entirely steel, while US pennies are almost entirely zinc.

You could maybe find a location near you before coming down that has a pressed penny machine and try it before you go to WDW just to know in advance. We saw some in the zoo, a local small candy shop, etc...

Just exchange 50 cents for 50 pennies at one of the cashiers. Really, don't stick a canadian penny in there, it might jam it for the rest of the folks

Thanks everyone. I really need to get over this apparent hang-up I have over asking cashiers for change!
I must be unconsciously damaged from my preteen years spent around arcades and candy coin machines? No idea.

We've done them here at the Giant Apple and they worked but who knows, maybe they are calibrated differently.

Thank you. I had meant to look that up but had thought I remembered "some post on some site somewhere" saying that pre-1982 US pennies were the best and that Cndn ones were good too. Always good to check first. You totally saved my bacon. Who wants a half pressed messed up penny? Not me or my kids....I can just imagine the potential for melt-down now. More likely they'd just give me the look...like, duh Mom, what were you thinking?

FYI Canadian pennies pre-1996 are mostly copper. 0.98 actually.
I'm sure there are still lots of them floating around in jars and piggy banks...

Pre 1982 US Pennies are the best!! Also, some vinegar mixed with ketchup will shine your pennies right up.

Have you tried this? Does it really work?
I'll need to make sure I don't try to shine or press any that are actually worth something.

Same here. We use Canadian penny all the time in the pressing penny machine, never had problem with it.

BTW you can still pay with it. Every store have the obligation to accept your penny as payment... they juste can give you penny for change.

You wouldn't believe how many local shops around here refuse to take them. Most likely because they are small town businesses not giant chain stores. Yes, they are still legal tender but they don't all have to take them. I'd rather still support local business than get y and take my money elsewhere.
I'll bundle all my cents up and take them to the bank one of these days...you know, the ones I don't press

But the penny is not your payment, that is your prize provided by you. Your payment is with Quarters....
