Thanks! I make my yearly pilgrimage on the first week of May. I have started to worry that this year would not be as much fun because of all that's going on. Let's face it though a bad day at WDW is still 20x better than a day at work. At least now I know what's going on, when, and where. + rep points from me! Thanks

Expedition Everest Preview (8:15am)

Interesting..

Very interesting...I wonder what type of preview they have in mind...are they going to walk aroun the site...are they going to show some sort of video...images....models?

Any possible new attraction announcements at the event?

From what I'm guessing the Everest preview will be a presentation of facts and concepts that will reflect what the attraction will look like upon completion. There is a small video presentation that press members can see when accessing the press-only web site for the celebration. This shows a little (and I mean very little) of the design and creative process of making this attraction. I'm hoping the preview might include a tour of the village area surrounding the ride itself.

All the press kit/invitation states other than what I posted when I started the thread is:

"You’ll be able to:
  • Experience the latest high-flying, high-octane fun at Walt Disney World, including Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show; Soarin’; Cinderellabration and Lucky the Dinosaur
  • Get a sneak “peak” of Expedition Everest at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
  • Interview top Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Executives and Walt Disney Imagineers
  • Interview Travel Experts "

The "What’s New, What’s Next News Briefing" at MGM sounds interesting...

Even more interesting I think, is that this briefing is scheduled for the day they're at The Studios....

What does it mean?

So what does this mean to a visiting family? Will the parks be closed at those times? More crowded? Areas not accessible? or it is just a matter of knowing what's going on where but no real impact?

I've been invited to go to the 5/4 thru 5/6 celebration. On 5/5, We're having breakfast in the MK, followed by a preview of Cinderrelabration (sp?), and then a meeting with Disney Mgt. and Imagineers about the future of WDW Resort. Also, there's a concert at MGM on 5/4, and they're not saying who the performer is. Disney is saying it's a major musical act.

I'm looking forward to this trip. I'm going as the guest of my sister. She was invited because she books a lot of meetings at WDW for her company. The best part is the whole trip is gratis, on the arm, free. I'm very lucky.

I did the press events for the opening of GF, Mickey's Birthday Land and Norway back in 1988. Only thing I recall is those areas were press-only for the trip. There was big ceremony at Mickey's Birthday Land with Eisner and Carol Burnett and others. The Malestrom may have been limited to press for the day. There was a big party at GF featuring Beach Boys and all you could eat and drink for a couple of days. I suspect both Mickey's and Norway may have been open for soft openings/previews prior to the event, but I am not certain. Pretty sure the hotel was not.

I also did opening of Splash Mountain in 1992, as well as the Aladdin Parade at MGM. That was in October. I had ridden Splash in July prior. For that one, the closed Pleasure Island for the opening night and closed MGM at like 3 p.m. for the next day.

Don't know the impact of recent press events. But there may be limtied access and early closings for some areas.
