Presidents' Weekend questions...

Okay, we found out that my new HUSBAND (!) will probably be leaving in about 30 days or so.... Could be as long as 10 weeks, but I digress...

Here's the question: He is thinking we should go to WDW for Presidents weekend (leave late 2/13, return Monday 2/17). In the meantime, we are saving for the "real" wedding and honeymoon. Since he could be gone for 2 years, we really should sneak away now.... Is the cost going to be outrageous for that weekend? How about airfare? Are we better off going someplace else that weekend and doing the WDW "honeymoon" later?

I don't want to spend too much on this, since we have other expenses and such. Any suggestions?

I'm pretty sure it is going to be crowded that weekend. If your not going to see your husband for that amount of time. I would take the chance. Hope that helped some

We were there last Presidents week end and week. It is very,very crowded as all NY and NJ kids have off for vacation. You didnt mention if you were staying on site or not. If you are please take advantage of the early entry. Use fast pass everywhere. The lines for the popular rides had huge waits and also make priority seating now, repeat now for any place you wanted. We tried to change one of our PS's and were told it was then or nothing. So have a very good plan and stick to it. You really can't waste alot of time. Also the weather was really unpredictable. It really rained hard a few days on and off and it was cool at night, hence layer yourself. Shorts were o.k. but zip offs would have been and are a good option and forget the swimming. It was just too cold. I might also mention, we had plans to meet another couple and both our kids were sick one morning so there went that. Kids are coming there with tons of germs, Lookout. If you know what to expect and plan very well, you will not be disappointed. Enjoy your magical time.

plane tickets are rather expensive for that weekend now, and you would be paying peak season prices at the hotels.

Ewww... That's what I was afraid of. Maybe we'll find something else to do that weekend.... Maybe the Bahamas are available!

Have you considered staying at one of the DD hotels? This may make up for the cost of the airfare. Check out mousesavers.com, and see if that's something you could be happy with.

You may have already considered this option. I hardly ever fly, but from people who I know that do, use priceline.com when they're in a pinch. Only problem is, once you get something for the price you want, you've bought it - no going back.

Have you thought about calling CRO and explaining your situation? You might be able to get a military rate. I don't know if they'll work with you, maybe someone with more experience would know. You could always call to ask, the worst they can do is say no.

Super suggestion! Shades of Green is still closed so they have rooms set aside at the Contemporary and other hotels (which may already be booked). Rates are based on military or DoD rank.Mousesavers has the rank/rate list.

I peeked at airfares for your time period.

If you could go late this month you could save a bundle.

I recommend Priceline for airline tickets. I have used them to get airfare....from Greensboro NC to Orlando for $65 roundtrip. You just have to get lucky and it's worth a try. True you don't know the times until you buy the tickets but mine have never been bad.

Calling SOG would be the way to go on the hotel, they may be able to get you a good overflow rate at another Disney hotel, or there's always the possibility of a cancellation at the Contemporary, but do it NOW because SOG has a 30 day cancellation policy.

Just my 2 cents (after being married 16 years to a career Coast Guard offficer) take the time now to go somewhere else where you can just be together. WDW will always be there but your time together is precious, so make the most of it with fewer distractions that WDW has to offer. (also, it would save you money, I would guess.) I love Disney as much as anybody, but that's what I would do.

Whatever you decide, hope you can enjoy your pre-deployment time as much as possible. Just try to live in the moment and not think about the future too much! Good luck!

I see you are from NJ. If you are able to make the trip, check out prices for Atlantic City. We cut our airfare in half over the Christmas holiday compared to flying out of Philly. Spirit Air didn't have the nicest planes or the most legroom but their staff was very nice and they were ONTIME! Anyway, best wishes to you both.
