Pregnant at WDW

Hi everybody! I've only thrown my 2 cents in a few times here, but now I really need your knowlege and opinions. My wife Becky just found out she is pregnant and will be about 4 months along when we return to WDW for our 8th trip.
We will be staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, which should be awesome...in the past we have always stayed at a moderate resort.
We don't have any kids yet, and on previous trips we have been big fans of thrill rides and Pleasure Island.
Since this is our last trip for just the two of us and we may not be back for a couple of years I want to make this trip special for her. Do you have any suggestions or tips for us?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Jim

Me when I found out:

Congratulations!

I think if you do a quick search, you'll find a few threads where we discuss going to WDW while expecting.

I've gone there during 2 pregnancies, and lived to tell the tale! ;)

I think everyone will agree that you should #1...run your plans by your OB/GYN and heed his/her advice #2 pay attention to the warning signs...they're posted for a reason. Keep in mind that you're "riding" for two....for example, RnR might not be a problem for your wife, but the G forces are dangerous to baby!

I've never been to WDW pregnant - but I have been pregnant a few times, so I think I'm qualified to give you some advice. :animwink:

Have her buy some comfortable walking shoes right before you leave - make sure she buys them at the end of the day ... my feet started crying at around 4 to 5 months and comfortable shoes are a must!

At Bath & Body Works, they have this awesome foot refresher lotion (in peppermint, I think) - it's absolutely the best and was a must for me when I was pregnant.

Bathroom breaks - realize you may be taking *a lot* of these!
:animwink:

Make a scrapbook for your baby - his/her first trip to WDW! My kids absolutely love looking at pictures of me pregnant with them.

And btw, congrats!!!:sohappy:

Definately ask for a room close to the main lobby. At the end of the day she'll appreciate it.

When we went to Disney when I was pregnant, we made sure to do alot of things we knew we probably wouldn't be able to do there for a couple of years...until my son got older. We had romantic, relaxing, quiet dinners (You won't get a chance for that again any time soon...LOL) We watched alot of the longer "grown up" movies and shows...like Impressions D' France. I love that movie, it's a nice break and very refreshing but can't get my 2 1/2 year old anywhere near it!

Basically, just try to do a lot of things you won't get a chance to do for a while. Make sure you make a lot of time for relaxing. Maybe as a surpirse, get her an appointment at the spa so she could spoil herself for a while? Bet she'd appreciate a nice pedicure or facial.

Congratulations and best wishes to you and your wife!

Holly gave some GREAT tips here!!

I have been to WDW at different stages of my 2 pregnancies & I will say this...you're lucky to be going at such an early stage. I literally thought I was going to die when I went at 7 months pregnant in the HOT month of June a few years back! Yes, I am a total idiot! Being only in the 4th month, your wife shouldn't have too difficult of a time. Typically, women don't start packing on the baby weight heavily till 5 months, so that's when discomfort really sets in.

Always be aware of bathroom locations!! And yes, Holly's shoe tip was wonderful! I'm assuming since summer is winding down, you're probably going in the fall? Good choice! The heat of the summer here is brutal on a mommy-to-be.

Plan your breaks & meals wisely...make sure that every hour or 2, she has some down time...be it a snack, meal, drink on a bench, show, etc.

Adhere to warning signs for preggies! They are there for a reason. This was easy for me...I'm a coaster-chicken. I must admit though, I did do ToT at 3 months of pregnancy. Hey, my OB/GYN ok'd that. The docs can give great advice on your trip plans.

As for making the trip special...how about doing some shopping for baby? There's a ton of baby items available at WDW. Get that baby all ready for their WDW future! :D You can also have the Disney florists of Gifts of A Lifetime make a gift basket to surprise your wife with & have it sent to the hotel room. You could do a baby themed basket &/or a basket just to make your wife feel special (relaxation/romance basket?). Take her for some romantic dining experiences. Things like El Rio del Tiempo (my fave) are not so easily done with babies & toddlers, so do these types of sit-down, take your time restaurants NOW.

Hope this helps some & CONGRATULATIONS!! :sohappy: :sohappy:

I thought all you women were into equality - can't you book your own spa treatment.

( Just kidding - don't want to start a fight on here )

We can sure book our own spa ... just as soon as everything else starts being equal. (Like you putting the toliet seat down, sharing the remote, being able to find your socks, blah, blah, blah.)

Just kidding too - thought your own response was pretty funny!

So far these are all great suggestions! Thank you all for your tips and well wishes!!
You guys pointed out some stuff I really wasn't thinking about and should have been...like her energy level being down. I think I was worried that she would be disappointed by the ride restrictions, esp. Splash Mountain. But perhaps if I can get her to enjoy a slower pace, take her to nice restaurants , spas, and other relaxing activities, we will see a new side of WDW, and she will appreciate not being dragged around on her sore feet.
My thoughts were maybe to hit Cirque de Solei or a private fireworks boat cruise. (I was also thinking of one of the many walking tours, but now I'm thinking thats not a great idea.) Loved the idea of a gift basket in the room...I will have to look into that one further.
Me, I'm loving having this new challenge. Planning a WDW vacation has gotten too easy, and the planning is half the fun for me!

RIGHT - If you women didn't need the toilet seat down it could stay up all day,
If women liked sports programmes and horror films you wouldn't need the TV remote,
If women put away our clothes properly (and in the right place) we would be able to find them,
and, if women didn't mither about equality there'd be no disagreeing in the world.

Still kidding - you sound like a fighter - I would hate to fall out with you
:p :p

We found out a couple of weeks ago that my wife is pregnant and the doctor said it was OK for her to ride Spalsh Mountain. She will be 3 months when we go to Disney in Sept. I am glad someone else asked their doctor and he said it was ok to have a little thrill on a Disney trip.

My wife was pregnant last October when we were there and we still had a blast. I went on some of my favorites but no thrill rides for her. But look forward to the switch pass when the baby is born so she wont have to wait in any lines and can go up the rides exit while you look after your wee one. Congrats

I went to WDW when I was 32 weeks pregnant. I don't know about others, but when I was pregnant I had no interest in fast or bumpy rides. My whole since of blance was off. The good news is there is lots to do there and just being there is fun. It was a great trip and I am gald we went.

We took all these pictures of me with Minnie ect.... and said "baby's first picture with Minnie!" We also took one with the bride hats on, well I thought it was funny (we had been married for 7 years at that time.)

My advice, hang out at the pool and don't get too hot. 4 months is around the time many women stop morning sickness. (not for me it was 6 months to 8 months, then I got sick again!)

Ah, but men need the toliet seat down too - at least 1/2 the time anyway.

And women do like sports - we'd be more than happy to let you control the remote while watching gymnastics and ice skating.

And as soon as men start putting the dirty clothes in the proper place - directly *into* the hamper and not on the floor next to it - I'm sure we'll figure out how to place clean clothes exactly where you can find them.

And finally, most women don't complain about things not being equal - we simply *make* it equal in ways the male race haven't discovered yet. (For example - check your credit cards - every time the toliet seat is up, you'll find a record of a purchase at our favorite shoe store.)

FYI - I kinda like you! :D

Good come back :sohappy:

I think you and me have a lot in common - argumentative for a start. Its a good job we're seperated by that Atlantic Ocean or else we would forever be at each others throats.

PS - its a good job you don't check our credit card bills either.

Well ... thankyouverymuch. (Now where's that little "take-a-bow" smilie when you need one? :D )

And argumentative? Nah ... I just hate it when I don't have the last word. (Hence *THIS* post ... ROFL!)

You want the last word   , sorry, just fell off my chair.

Pardon my ignorance - what is ROFL ?

Perhaps you should activate your private message facility then we could continue the "discussion" without upsetting other members !

Carry bottled water with you-- freeze it the night before so that it stays cold. And if it's hot when you'll be going, take one os those mister/fans to keep her cool-- they really help. The big worry is getting dehydrated in the heat. make sure you cool off in the middle of the day with a nap at your hotel or a dip in the pool.

The Grand Floridian spa offers a pregnancy massage, which is a real treat (so is a pedicure to go with it!).

Ask for some extra pillows in your room, and ask for feather ones!

You may also consider renting a small refrigerator ($10/day) to keep snacks and drinks in. If she is like me, she gets hungry at all hours of the day and night and is pretty particular about what she feels like eating! Stop at a grocery store on your way in (if you take Tiffany Town Car service, a stop is included if you request it in advance) and let her get all the food she wants to keep in the room.

Make reservations in advance for sit-down lunches and dinners in full-service restaurants so that you can take a nice break and get out of the sun for a while. Speaking of sun, remember lots of sunblock-- pregnant women burn much more easily!

Tell her to DEFINITELY pack a maternity bathing suit. She will want to swim and I don't remember seeing any in the shops in WDW.

Cirque du Soleil was great-- you'll like it!

Hope this helps! I was just at WDW in May, right before I got pregnant-- so it's all pretty fresh in my mind!

A special pregnancy massage? That's awesome...definately looking into that!
I'm hoping it won't be too hot (going Nov 9-16) but we will be swimming...I'll make sure she has a suit that fits BEFORE we leave.
Thanks so much for the great tips!
