Preferred rooms at pop?

Is there really a difference between a standard and a preferred room at pop? Can you request a building close to the main building? would this be the same as a "preferred" room?? I am asking because I have heard that there is no difference between the 2 but I am willing to pay for convenience :hammer:

My wife does all the booking of our trips but I believe the last time we stayed at POP CENTURY a "preferred" room was $10 more /night but was well worth it being closer to the main building with it's store and food court.

There is no difference between a preferred room and a standard room other then the cost and location of the room. However, Pop Century is set up much better then the All Stars. None of the rooms are really that far from the food court.

The "preferred rooms" are exactly the same as any other rooms in the resort, only they are in the buildings closest to the Food Courts. This can be pretty funny too, because you might actually be in the "preferred room" furthest away from the Food Court, making it only one room away from the "non-preferred" rooms.

But the fact that people are willing to pay extra for these "preferred rooms" is the very reason they now exist! :brick:

They way the buildings at POP are set up, there is no room more than a few minutes walk to the Food Court and busses. Save your money and use it for some nice souvenirs that you can enjoy long after your "preferred room" is forgotten!

I totally agree - save your money!
When we went in May, we checked in quite late at night, and our check-in attendant gave us a map to our room. We traisped through countless courtyards and alleyways to get there, and I kept thinking "I should have paid the extra $$ for the preferred rooms". The next morning when we got up for breakfast we realized we were actually about 2 minutes from the main building, and had walked basically the entire perimeter of the resort the night before! :hammer:

Could be a consideration

The 60s building used to be the only perferred buildings as it is directly across from Classic Hall (food court/giftshop/busses) and face the big Hippy Dippy Pool. Being close to the pool was considered the main attraction. It was not closest to Classic Hall.

Building A in 50s and building B in 70s is closer IF you get the end that is nearest to Classic Hall. Recently Disney has started referencing some rooms in those buildings as preferred recognizing the pool wasn't always the important factor. 50s having an advantage over 70s as it has its own quite pool.

80s and 90s are configured as the 50s buildings are but with the 70s buildings inserted between them and the 60s.

Even the 90s is not an extreme walk like Country Fair is over at All Stars Music. However, if you do have any problem walking every extra step counts.

Is preferred worth it? The rooms are the same but if your ability to physically deal with more distance it does make a difference.

In July 2004, I paid for a preferred room at Pop. I was in the 60s building on the top floor facing the pool. That location helped a few nights when we did the EMH hours and MK closed at 2:00 am :)

We just called there this morning and asked which building was considered the "preferred" rooms and the CM that we spoke too (Murphy?) said that there are certain rooms in the 50's 60's and 70's that are considered "preferred". There is really no difference between those and the standard rooms except location, so they charge you more to be closer to the main pool and Classic Hall(reservation desk, food court, bus stops etc.). We requested the 80's.
