$40 million on Friday is VERY impressive....Shrek 2 only took in $28 million on its first Friday (then again, it had been out for two days also).

This is going to be an excellent summer for the box office. If Potter can bring in this much, I can't even imagine how Spider-Man 2 will do....:D

yeah it should be good box office year for all but Disney...:(
80 days is coming into some stiff competition. Arthur and Village should be the bright spots.

I haven´t seen or read any of the movies or books, but I am sick of it already! gggrrr...

Last night, Harry Potter was on 7 of the theaters at the mall I wanted to go. We wanted to see that comedy with Tom Hanks and it was cancelled for Harry Potter too, leaving us with only Troy in one theater (which I have already seen), The day after tomorrow in 4 theaters (which I don´t plan to see), and that Cuba Gooding Jr. movie -something Radio- in one theater (I don´t really like him, so I am not planning on seeing it either).

The other mall was about the same... Very dissapointing!

(the only good thing about it is the promotion the mexican director Alfonso Cuarón is getting). :sohappy: ;)

Really? I thought it looked good, and I usually don't like those types of movies. Steven Spielberg is directing so it should be good (though he hasn't done any good films in a few years).

Anyways, official numbers are saying Potter made $38.2 million on Friday, which is just short of Spider-Man's $39.4 million, so it doesn't have the largest opening day record. However, estimates are saying it made $92 million over the weekend, and it has the record for best June opening. Even though it is making good money, I don't believe it will surpass Shrek 2 this year, though it should make more than the first two films did.

I was referring to "The ladykillers" with Tom Hanks and Marlon Wayans. It´s a remake of an old movie by Peter Sellers.

Has anyone seen it? The trailer looked funny, but a friend of mine told me it was bad and she left the movie theater before it finished. Any input on that one? Thanks!

I love the potter series but it did take up tons of screens 6 at the AMC 8. All sold out :(. Rain paked the house. So I had to go see it at the six.

I see a lot of movies, and I was very unimpressed with The Lady Killers, I love Tom Hanks, but he was underutililized in the movie, 90% of the jokes fell flat, and, even worse for a Coen flick... It was boring

Let's all give a collective thanks to M. Night Shyamalan, the man who has the sole power to save Disney's summer.

It may be my sixth sense...but all signs are showing M. Night's movies to be unbreakable.

I was going to catch a late morning matinee of Harry Potter today, but I woke up with a bad headache, so I went back to sleep. I just feel really "blah" today, so I'll try again tomorrow.

Oh and Maria... The Ladykillers left the theatres here months ago. I heard it was a decent remake but doesn't compare to the original with Sir Alec Guinness. I might check it out when it comes out on DVD.

I finally saw Harry Potter this morning. Was good! Definitely the best one so far. Only real complaint is the theatre had the volume too friggin' low. Wanted to tell someone to turn it up, but I didn't want to miss any of the movie. I definitely want to see this one again soon.

"What the bloody hell was that all about?"

"Turn to page 394."
