Hey,
Does anyone have any info. on the "Special Effects" upgrades coming to the PotC attractions? I keep hearing this phrase from al the official news concerning the Rehab and was thinking that it must be something worth-while to keep mentioning.

The new revised storyline will include....

A crew of plundering and pillaging pirates, now lead by Barbossa, attack a Caribbean seaport town and sets it ablaze in a wild night of reverlry. We will also learn the motive behind the attack: They're in search of their old shipmate Captain Jack Sparrow, convinced he knows the location of a fabulous treasure.

In the enhanced attraction, Guest will come face-to-face with Captain Jack Sparrow and experience new special effects, including a ghostly apparition in a curtain of mist.

The attraction is scheduled to close March 1, 2006, with a tentative open date of July 7, 2006, just in time for the opening of the new second film "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" that opens in theatres nationwide.

Expect to be able to see this film presented in digital projection at the AMC Pleasure Island 24 Theatres located at Downtown Disney.

All information per officially released cast sources.

Hope this helps! :sohappy:

Darn, looks like I won't be able to ride Pirates on my trip...
Though I still might get to see the Disneyland version this summer, which is good.

Admittedly, JP, this doesn't sound half-bad. This would put the Florida version more in-line with the others, in that there's a search for a marvelous hidden treaure. Currently in the Florida version, we wind up in the treasure room, but we don't know why. The Florida versions is kind of backwards, in that we see the permanent curse/doom of the treasure before we plunge back through time to watch them get the treasure.

I actually kind of like that storyline for the new "enhanced" pirates. It gives a "who" and a "why" to the ride's story, both of which are lacking. If done well, it should just add another layer of storytelling to an already great attraction and should appeal to a wide audience, from those expecting to see the famous characters from the movie to those who've never even heard of the movie.

Does anyone know if the new AA figures will be of the "faster, more fluid" variety or will the stick to the older-type figures so they don't stand out too much from all of the other AA's in the ride?

I suspect they'll transform the main pirate in the bride auction scene with Barbarossa.

As long as the changes aren't too drastic, new effects are added, and everything is touched up, then I'll be pretty happy.

Actually, that is one character I do not want changed. The auctioneer should and hopefully will remain the same, considering how prominent of a character he is in the world of the Pirate attraction. He even has his own action figure now ;) Barbossa in that role wouldn't make sense, imo. Since Jacobson confirmed today that Barbossa will be in the scene where the mayor is being dunked demanding to know the whereabouts of Jack Sparrow, I would think putting him in the very next scene as such a prominent character wouldn't be a good idea. Just my opinion though :)

Yeah, the whole Auction scene is apparently to be untouched, save for perhaps some upgrades to the Auctioneer. Jack himself keeps hiding in scenes, and is most prominent in the Jail scene.

As I have only been to WDW, I have never been on any other PotC. That said, I still love the ride.
If it makes the ride tell a better story, or at least an easier to follow one, then I'll be happy.
