POTC Observationa - 6/1/18

We rode it 5/31 and there was mist. I am not a fan of the mermaid skeleton and singing mermaids missing from the beginning. And yes the cannon blasts seemed much bigger and got the whole boat wet.

Several observations
1. No mist
2. Mermaid skeleton is gone
3. Cannon bomb splash effect is VERY wet
4. New redhead scene - Meh
1. Not uncommon, in fact, I don't remember the mist even being there until recently when they started to project images on the mist. Probably I single day issue. I would be really upset if they shut down the ride because such a small part of the ride was temporarily out of order.

2. The mermaid skeleton was taken out when they decided against the inclusion of mermaids over all. By itself it had no reason to be there.

3. A splash of water in a water ride is wet... how awful, what are they thinking!

4. New Redhead scene just takes a little getting used too. It is of no consequence to those that are new to the ride. I liked the old one, but, that is because that is what I was used to seeing. I don't think the new one is all that bad. The concept of pirates holding auctions for chickens is a little far fetched, but, then again so was paying for wenches. If you're a pirate you just pillage, you don't pay. So it never was any degree of realistic.

I believe the mist began when PotC Dead Man's Chest came out in 2006 to project an image of Bill Nighy's Davy Jones from the movie.
Yea, that sounds about right. I know I went for a couple of decades without remembering even seeing the mist until after the Pirates movies started.

Seems we've gone full circle now. From people complaining about the film additions to the ride, to them being missed (or observed) when they're gone.
Well, life does go on. Old things die off and new things take root. Been happening since the beginning of time. One of the reasons why I do not let myself get to emotional over a theme park.

The mermaids removal is an improvement. Yet another uneasy addition, good riddance.

The splash & soak zone took me by surprise. I'm not sure how I feel about it. Time will tell.

The redhead has been discussed ad nauseum, but let me add that I, too - disregarding any pro/con/PC angle - thought the segment lame and yawn inducing. Who is interested in Antique Dealers of the Caribbean? There is no tension in that scene anymore, no humour, no piraty activity.

Overall, my overriding thought was that this ride is now all but dead. It has been killed. Slowly suffocated under layers of needless tinkering. What a pity.

I love it when the mist is gone. I just wish the Paul Frees saying "Dead Men Tell No Tales" echoing audio was cranked up. It is such an afterthought rather than the main audio of the caverns anymore.

To all the other changes, we know they can't just leave it alone. There was such a gap in the popularity of the films they had to change the redhead scene just to stir attention to it.

The ride is fundamentally the same as it is always was. I'm confused how some tinkering can have killed it off!

I thought it was just water vaporized by ultrasonic mist generators...

Don't those create a humid water vapor, I don't remember feeling wet going through the curtain. But it has as much of a chance as being that as it does being dry ice. Of course the dry ice vapor is also water vapor, it just doesn't seem as wet. I don't know I was just taking a guess.
