So, I was able to see Idina Menzel in the front row, dead center seat for the first post-Tony performance of WICKED. For all those who are fans of the show, it was AMAZING BEYOND BELIEF!

Before the show started, the conductor was talking to the orchestra... preparing them to stop the Alma Mater song because Idina was bound to get a reaction with her first entrance. Well, she did.. and the orchestra stopped... and the audience kept screaming... so the orchestra just tried starting the song again.. and the audience kept screaming... and Idina started laughing to herself and crying. It was pretty cool.

Later, during POPULAR, Kristin TOTALLY pulled one on Idina. There is a moment when Kristin spins a mirror in front of Idina's face. As she was doing it, she remarked "Look, it's like a tony!" Well, the audience totally lost it... it was amazing. Idina starts
laughing and crying hysterically and falls back on the bed.. and
Kristin basically tactles her in a huge hug. The whole thing
completely stopped the show for a good minute. Then, when Idina rushes out saying "I have to go"... Kristin spins the mirror in
front of her face and then sort of drops it and gives the audience
a huge "I didn't get a Tony" face... and then a wink. Again, the
audience exploded in laughter.

Then comes intermission.. and I turn around.. and there is Mandy
Moore.. who just happens to be in SAVED which would have been my fall back plan for the evening, had the primo tickets for WICKED not come through.

Basically, the theatre is my neighbor... quite literally...

Not to worry. There is not a bad seat in the house. It is the best constructed space on B'way.

And you will LOVE it.

now to finish packing and to catch a plane to disney!

From a music perspective, I think I prefer Avenue Q over Wicked. Also, I think Avenue Q won because it deals with some more current themes compared to Wicked.

I find it strange that Assassins won best revival. Think about the story, and think about the world currently... hmmm?...

Disney2002... I hope you enjoy Saved!. I wrote a review for it a couple of weeks ago. You should still be able to find it in a search.

I wish I could do that...

I haven't seen either of them...

I'm seeing The Producers at the Kennedy Center at the end of the month though.

Love it!

I love WICKED!

I saw it in April. Kristen made some "neck" jokes during the performance I saw. (She had injured her neck or something.)

A very good show, indeed!

I am having issues trying to get anything center stage. I really don't want to pay 300 dollars for front mezz, I better orch center for that.

Just curious... has Phantom of the Opera ever won any Tony Awards and if so, which ones? It definately deserves some, it's amazing..

But wow, I want to see Wicked sooo bad. We had to choose between that and Hairspray, but I've been told I won't be dissappointed! :D

Front Mezz are great seats at the Gershwin Theatre. If you can get tickets in the first 3 rows, you should take them.

The reason you aren't finding any orch center seats is because, well, there aren't any left. I work for a broadway ticketing agency and there just aren't any left. Well, very few, but they are all reserved for people spending two to three times the face value or for package deals and what not.

At this point, you can't care where you're sitting if you want to see Wicked. Just feel lucky if you can find A ticket. Especially one before Kristin leaves on July 18.

As for the first row seats, those are given out in a lottery two hours before the show. About 200-300 people show up an enter, so you gotta be lucky.

I am going to miss Kristin because I am not coming till July 30th!! One of my guest is staying at the Waldorf next week and they were able to get her fifth row center I am so jealous. She paid 192.00 Which I find reasonable considering they are going for 350.00 from ticket brokers
