I don't think there are too many here that know of the French insult of fingers raised in a "V" (if memory serves me correctly, the French did this to insult the English referencing the fingers that were cut off of archers. The "V" represents the grip taken by archers on their bow. The French would capture archers and remove their fingers so they could no longer shoot). Here in the states, it is simply known for peace.

It's actually a British insult. You are correct about there being a French connection, but got it the wrong way around. (Possible some Hollywood film played it that way ;) )

In 1415 a vastly outnumbered English army led by King Henry V beat the French forces at the battle of Agincourt. To ensure the French archers would not be a threat in the future the fingers they use to draw the bowstring were cut off. The English could then taunt them by holding their own two fingers up, palm facing towards their own body to show that they still had their fingers. The sign is still in use today. The American equivalent is the bird.

To make it a peace sign, just turn the palm to face outwards as in this Churchill photo.

I think I have too. You were CP 04, eh?

I was down there over the summer, so you might have seen me here and there.

As for the peace sign, I had no clue it was a insult over on the british isle. You learn new stuff everyday!

But belive me, if I was making a rude sign...it would be a good old fashion american one :p

Nice puppy MKT

Yup... I was there a lot. I had a friend who's room mate worked Space Mountain and a friend in another part of Tomorrowland, so needless to say, I cant tell you the last time I waited in Standby for that ride. :zipit:
