Portofino or hard rock?

In 2008 and 2010 my BF and I stayed at the Portofino, I like it but don't love it, my BF does! We are going back to Uni/IOA in 2012 (Sept), and I'm tempted to try the Hard Rock, but my BF says its more for youngsters (I'm 34, hes 40) and that it is noisier than the Portofino. Heres my like/dislikes of the Portofino and what I think I would like about the Hard Rock:

Portofino-
Great theme, relaxing, quiet.
I don't like the eateries, the constant Italian music is annoying and am just generally bored with it.

Hard rock- As I've never stayed but have eaten at Palms, I'm just saying what I think I would like-

Great/interesting theming, good eateries, didn't like Palms but like the look of The Kitchen, upbeat theme, just a change of scene.

Is the HR loud & full of noisy people, I don't have much patience for annoying people & children !

I'm rambling! Basically what are your views on both, is the grass always greener, should I stick with what I know?

If you've never been it might be worth checking out.

It is louder and has more young families and teens, movies/concerts shown by the pool at night, rock playing in the halls, etc...

It's not terrible but it's not a quiet, romantic hotel by any means.

My wife and I are close to your ages and Portofino is our favorite followed closely by Royal Pacific and Hard Rock a distant third.

Thanks for posting, I think the only thing that may bother me is it being louder than the Portofino, I hadn't thought of the Royal Pacific, is that similar to the Portofino? I know it's further from the parks than the other 2, does that matter?

Although we aren't going till 2012 we hope to book at the end of the month! :)

Royal Pacific is very nice, Tchoup Chop is a great dinner choice there and yes I would say it's more like Portofino. Nice and quiet, tropical/island theme to everything, more geared to couples than kids.

It's not far from the park at all really, just a quick walk and you'll come out right by Margaritaville.

Thanks SleepingMonk, this seems more suitable than HR, I will check it out

Heading for the great escape.
Ive stayed every trip at the HRH its my favourite hotel in Orlando. Club 7 is excellent and the staff in every area are friendly and helpful. It has a very vibrant feel, two decent place to eat, and a great bar as well as movies by the pool. Bring on the Waboritas.....

Portofino looks nice, but Ive never fancied an Italian themed hotel having lived there, coals to Newcastle and all that.

Yea I get that, I've since noticed HRH doesn't have any balconies, that really puts me off, petty I know but I love my balconies!! Where else am I going to hang my wet knickers!:ROFLOL:

Clothes line in the bath, or laundry room. Or just go commando and erase the problem altogether. :drevil:

I am one of those noisy people though.
